215,000 points doesn't get much in Wyndham. You can go to Club Wyndham and see what you can get for 215,000 points.

I gave away Wyndham contracts with 630,000 and 700,000+ points for free here on TUG. Wyndham points without status are not worth anything. Now status is sorta, kinda valuable, but not if you pay a lot for the status. We have top tier and save 60% on bookings using points, and we also get free upgrades, if available. I have not received many upgrades. I just don't get them, even when requested. I think our daughter did get an upgrade once at Bonnet Creek.

I am deeding back our Shell. I am trying to use some of the points I have in RCI currently, which is keeping me from going forward, but in the end, I think I would be way better off without Shell.

This actually is appealing to us. What does the group think about that aspect of the pitch? The claim was that only by buying through Wyndham would we get those "developer perks" - not by buying on the resale market.

In general, you’re better off using cash or Wyndham reward points from other than converting TS points than you are using your Club Wyndham points. The exchange rate is poor enough that it’s probably cheaper to book by other means.

The real reason would be to have access to the Club Wyndham resorts that are not also Shell resorts, and it depends on whether or not (a) you like those resorts and (b) you are getting a fair price for your Shell MFs for the resulting Wyndham points.

If your conversion results in "VIP-eligible" points, they can also be used for WorldMark resorts that do not also have a Club Wyndham component. However, this is only after WorldMark owners have had first crack, so the high-demand times/resorts are unlikely to be available.

The conversion would put us at "VIP Bronze". The number 15,000 was tossed around a lot - that many point for a night in various Wyndham hotel chains (La Quinta, Baymont, etc.), that many points at vacation rentals through Vacasa (but which rentals? Surely they're not all equal.), etc. So 300,000 points gets you 20 nights, whether it's in time share, vacation rental, or hotel. From what you guys are saying, it sounds like that's not true - that is, the buying power of those points at hotels and vacation rentals is actually much lower.

I would not buy 85K points in order to convert a Shell account and get to Bronze. I would rather either just keep the Shell deed (assuming I still want those resorts) or dispose of the Shell deed and buy some Wyndham points on the resale market.

Glad you brought that up - how do you "dispose of the Shell deed"? Seems like it would be hard to even give away.

You can deed it back to Wyndham. They will take it and won't charge you anything. It's a win-win.

Thank you. We also agreed to the conversion of Shell points and purchase of additional Wyndham points 6 days ago. We've been second-guessing and evaluating our decision b/c of the 7-day rescission window in Hawaii. It helps knowing we couldn't just do the straight conversion. We only had 3,600 Shell points and purchased 64k Wyndham for a total of 204k Wyndham.

My advice: rescind. Dispose of your Shell ownership (probably via Certified Exit), and then buy Wyndham points resale. You probably paid something like $10-12K for this, and you could buy 200K points resale for a (very small) fraction of that.
