Anybody care to toss out 2021 prognostications they feel will happen in the MVC world over the next 12 months? Vistana integration into the DC, new ownership levels in the DC, salespeople will stop lying during presentations, MVC IT will allow us to cancel ressies online, hot new locations announced??? Anything goes. We can look back a year from now and see how right or wrong we all were.

If what the Sheraton Vistana Villages sales reps is even partially true, any integration plans of the programs won't happen until 2022. So for 2021, just more sales staff speculation on how you need to buy now so you can take advantage of all the great changes coming next year.

you have to love sales reps. Just recently I was told the anticipated date would be second quarter of 2012. Ah to dream. I’ve given up on a fully integrated system, including the Hyatt’s.

Another suggestion was the creation of 3 new levels that amount to quarter shares or fractional ownership for those wanting to spend cold winters in warmest climates. We’ve seen this concept with the likes of the Residence clubs like on Lake Tahoe. Levels are 25,000, 50,000 and 75,000 points.

its an interesting concept and an good angle for those looking for second homes without all the issues and expense of full ownership, especially if one wants to change locations every year like, S. Florida, Hawaii, Caribbean, Costa Rica et.... Unfortunately we have dogs and, MVC doesn’t allow pets and we’re not interested for for a quarter share.Maybe an RV

Personally, I’m not holding my breath. But the quarter share concept is an interesting one that I could see as a sales gimmick to get a select few either into the program or give Chairman level owners another rung on the ladder to reach for

I think with their recent staff cuts and covid extending into 2021, there will be absolutely nothing new in MVC, especially with the Vistana integration. Maybe a good time to pick up a resale unit on the cheap.

I predict that availability for reservations within the 60 day window will diminish significantly due to the carryover from 2020. The Puck trick will become more risky.

Same for the less-restricted 120-days window that was offered for COVID cancelations earlier this year. Availability throughout 2021 is going to be a huge problem and I predict that we'll be explaining throughout the year that there's simply no way Marriott can manufacture intervals out of thin air! When you consider that owners have had open 2021 windows throughout this mess, you have to realize that it just isn't going to be possible for everyone who had to cancel in 2020 to book the same in 2021. This will be true for Hawaii especially because Hawaii shut down for so long, but not limited to Hawaii by any stretch.

Sadly (at least for us wanting to buy), is that there are not very many cheap Vistana resales out there. At least not cheap compared to the past several years.

The Vistana integration will be complete by the end 2021 and I will not stay in a Marriott Timeshare 264 nights in 2021. It's been an interesting year so far

Sue, this will be a problem with all points based timeshare systems, not just Marriott.

Weeks based systems will vary. Fixed week, no, as if you weren't able to use them, you lost them. Floating, yes, although it may depend on how each system handles this. 2020 weeks may be treated like a "space available" airline reservation. You can't bump the people on the next flght, but you can occupy any seat not already sold. 2021 reservation may get priority in 2021, over 2020 reservations carried forward.

But no matter what it's going to be a BIG headache. . .

Sue, I just had an idea. We need a thread (like a sticky) for all timeshare systems, on how they are going to handle the 2020 carry forwards. That way, as people get information on their system's plans, they can post them on one thread.

Any ideas where to put the thread?

I think all of us who are moderating system-specific TUG forums are trying our best to make sure that the official various positions of timeshare/exchange companies re COVID-19 impacts are as easy to find within the forums (as easy as it's possible to be considering the flood of anecdotally-related posts/threads and the constantly-evolving positions.) With the overwhelming amount of info I think a single thread would very quickly become too cumbersome to be of value.

This Marriott forum has a sticky post and I'm happy to add to that thread any other "official" MVW positions/releases:
** Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information from Marriott Vacations Worldwide **

In 2020 I discovered the one downside in owning fixed weeks.

The way I looked at this back when I owned 6 Fixed Weeks at 6 different Independent HOA controlled Resorts was that when I couldn't use the Week I was saving air and car rental expenses. Basically I lost on low MFs and saved on the travel expenses I didn't incur...

I predict that some of the things that went away during covid will be gone forever. Examples: checking out games, large gatherings, activities that involve close contact.

In 2020 I discovered the one downside in owning fixed weeks. Hoping maybe market forces will help me in 2021 for the ones I can’t use.

Just wish Interval would waive the no rental rule for two years. :)
Now that is a good idea about them waiving the rental rule!

when the glut of vaccine occurs at the end of the first quarter (2021), TONS of people will be booking their travel plans. Call centers will be overwhelmed, inventory will be scare, and airlines and car rental co's may take a chance and raise prices to make up for the year of losses they have incurred.

I think that's wishful thinking. The vaccine is probably going to be 90-95% effective. I don't think that the masses will be vaccinated until July-October. That will wipe out a lot of the summer season again. I think we'll see normalcy after next winter, so maybe April of 2022. Don't be certain that Europe and other countries are going to be begging for us dumb Americans to come visit any time soon either.

They will take our money as soon as they know we won't be bringing a gift of covid. Right now, I don't think we're very welcome without a quarantine.
