Reviving a thread from 5 years ago.
I started my journey over a year ago. My BMI was over 44 and I have arthritis in my hip. At that weight the prospects of a hip replacement were nil, and even if I could get a surgeon to agree with doing the operation, I would not want to take the risk. Through Medicare, I was put into contact with a Weight Loss Practice and am working with a Dietitian and Personal Trainer. I'm also getting Physical Therapy for my hip/back which has provided me with additional training.
I have cut out alcohol and become obsessive on my food diary and in October I bought a Fitbit to get a better measure of my activity. I eat a lot of chicken breast and salads, but I'm able to find healthier options when we eat out. No fast food (except for Chick-fil-a wraps and salads with light Italian dressing) no pizza and I find that I will split a restaurant meal for now-later.
I'm currently down 90 pounds. My BMI is now around 32. My A1c has gone from 7.8% last year to 4.9% last week. Since October of last year, I have been below 5.6%. Twice, my doctor has reduced my metFORMIN. My Triglycerides are 80, Cholesterol is 114. HDL is a little low at 35 but LDL is 63. I no longer have Hypertension to the point of I have stopped taking blood pressure medication.
I want to lose another 20-30 pounds and then I will consider skin removal surgery as I now look:
My PT has included strength training and I'm getting some definition in my arms, and that helps.
