[ 2020 ] Let’s share our journey for those of us that want to pursue a healthier lifestyle to lose weight.

Ultimately another doctor told me to stop eating by 4:30 - 5:00, nothing except liquid after. I ate the same way, same 1500 calories and just changing that one thing I consistently started losing 1 lb a week.
That is what my nutritionist has said. We were chronic late eaters.

Reviving a thread from 5 years ago.

I started my journey over a year ago. My BMI was over 44 and I have arthritis in my hip. At that weight the prospects of a hip replacement were nil, and even if I could get a surgeon to agree with doing the operation, I would not want to take the risk. Through Medicare, I was put into contact with a Weight Loss Practice and am working with a Dietitian and Personal Trainer. I'm also getting Physical Therapy for my hip/back which has provided me with additional training.

I have cut out alcohol and become obsessive on my food diary and in October I bought a Fitbit to get a better measure of my activity. I eat a lot of chicken breast and salads, but I'm able to find healthier options when we eat out. No fast food (except for Chick-fil-a wraps and salads with light Italian dressing) no pizza and I find that I will split a restaurant meal for now-later.

I'm currently down 90 pounds. My BMI is now around 32. My A1c has gone from 7.8% last year to 4.9% last week. Since October of last year, I have been below 5.6%. Twice, my doctor has reduced my metFORMIN. My Triglycerides are 80, Cholesterol is 114. HDL is a little low at 35 but LDL is 63. I no longer have Hypertension to the point of I have stopped taking blood pressure medication.

I want to lose another 20-30 pounds and then I will consider skin removal surgery as I now look:

My PT has included strength training and I'm getting some definition in my arms, and that helps.
Congratulations!

We eat at 4:30 - 5:00 every day and that’s it for the night and we’re still fat. But we eat too many calories. One thing I know- I wouldn’t be happy just eating 1500 calories per day.

Good to know. My dog eats supper at 5, so I am always around then too. Now I need to commit to stop snacking.
I gained 10 lbs in the last couple years. I knew it and just didn’t care. Now I do care, and am determined to get it off!
Maybe I will report back in 10 weeks. 😊

I'm at 145, down 20 lbs. since January (BMI 16.8).
This has not been due to an intentional diet.
My doc says I need to eat more.
I'm investing in donuts, hot dogs & ice cream.
We shall see.

I would also not be happy eating just 1500 calories / day :(

We also eat early 4:00 - 5:00 but it's more about getting heartburn eating later

Biggest Loser Season 1 Winner Ryan Benson Recalls Feeling the Show ‘Set Us Up to Fail’: ‘We Were Exploited’

Another 3.2 lbs lost this past month. It slowed a little from a 4 lb average a month but I am still thrilled. I expect it too slow further as I am getting closer to my goal weight.

Again, eating the same healthy way, 1500 calories a day but just stopped eating between 4:30 and 5:00 pm. Before I was gaining every month eating the same, now losing.

Amazing, DrQ! Congratulations. Per this thread, I have lost 4-5 lbs. since stopping eating at 5 pm. I will keep plugging away.
What time do you eat at the beginning of your day?

I am reading book about intermittent fasting and find the idea of that program pretty appealing. Even if I only lost 2-4 pounds a month from where I am now, I would be happy with it.

That’s great!

I always eat by 5 pm. But never helped my weight any.

A friend recently lost over 100 lbs using GLP-1 drugs, they're now looking at plastic surgery for "loose skin"
Yeah, I just got a referral for a Plastic Surgeon to get evaluated as to whether I have attained my goal or if I have further to go.

GLP-1 antagonists are a game changer. It allows me to just eat to survive rather than survive to eat. It quiets the "food noise" as one of the former Biggest Loser contestants said in an interview on the 3-part Netflix series and that is the truth.

I had tried other intermittent fasting plans (a longer stretch of time), and they never did diddly. My 30-year-old son told me he was doing it. I was surprised; he only needed to lose a few, but lost more. He’s planning to get back in the gym and knew bulking up would add 10 lbs.
Anyway, I am copying him. Eat within 4 hours. So I generally do 1-5 pm. It has been easy, because I am busiest in the mornings. I am not tempted at night. I should drink more water. But I am feeling good. It will take a while before my family notices.

I want to avoid using the weight-loss drugs. I am always worried about longterm issues related to taking any kind of drug.

I started a weight loss program in July 2024, which focused on changes to my diet and supplemented with GLP1 medications. I lost just over 40 pounds. I just stopped the GLP shots, and I'm trying to have the weight bounce back. So far, so good, but it's only been about a month.

30 years ago I weighed 220 pounds
I started a diet that’s easy to follow
I eat 6 times a day
Small portions
Anything I want
Usually what fits into a salad plate in size
Example of typical day :
Breakfast smoothie …1st meal.. protein plus fruit
English muffin later
Cheese crackers nuts etc or maybe carrots and celery with ranch
1/2 sandwich chips and pickle or 1 enchilada with beans or rice
Small dinner… meatloaf Mac n cheese green beans or grilled chicken with pasta
Last meal is desert … usually a cup of pudding or ice cream

I drink 8 glasses of water
I do drink white wine, usually 2 glasses a night
No soda
I weigh 140 now and have been that weight for 28 years

My 30-year-old son ... planning to get back in the gym and knew bulking up would add 10 lbs
If you mean add 10 lbs of muscle, then he will burn extra fat WHILE he is doing it and he will raise his metabolism with his new body. I think muscle has 3x the metabolic rate as fat has. afaik, Everyone should be happy to add 10 lbs of muscle and lose 5 or 7 lbs of fat. If "bulking" incl a lot of water with the muscle, then just less to talk about.
Heck, add 15 lbs of muscle and lose 5 lbs of fat. Unless you're a pro cyclist who has to earn a living climbing mtns, that is a good thing

Wow, that is a great weight loss.

I have lost a great deal of weight on eating six meals a day, small meals of 110 calories or less for five meals, then a dinner of lean meat and green vegetables (salad, broccoli, green beans, etc.). It was fine but the weight crept back. Not as much as I lost but yeah, I need to do something again.

5 years ago I was up to 255 pounds. My pants were size 44 waist. I needed to lose weight. 3 years ago my pants were a 34 waist and I weighed 215 pounds. This morning I weighed 214 pounds. How did I do it. I cut back on alcohol. My standard mid afternoon snack became 1/2 cup of blue berries with 1 cup of cottage cheese. My dessert became an sliced apple with 2 slices of cheese. I cut back on starches and carbs. I walked a couple miles per day. No miracle diet. Just moderation.
