If this is any help in decisions, I just got an email from Steamboat asking if I wanted to return to the part time job I had last year.

Current plans are for the mountain to open at the traditional time of Thanksgiving with limited terrain and gradually expanding as is the usual approach. Masks and social distancing are expected when inside eg, Ticket Office where I worked, but not while skiing as far as I can tell. No info on limiting passengers on lifts/gondola is published yet but masks are required riding the Gondy this summer as well as masks/spacing in the boarding line. That will be interesting on a powder day or days like MLK Weekend.

If you use the Tix Offices at Steamboat this season and you see a Geezer named Rick from Cincinnati behind the plexiglass, say hi.

Cheers

Still debating on buying the Epic and using the credit they gave me from last year by Labor Day. I have an ongoing search in for a unit in Park City at Marriott Mountainside in December - if it matches before the Epic pass discount cut off its a no brainer for me. Then I'll start working on a couple additional Epic resort vacations for later in the season. I love the early season skiing in Park City. Granted, the snow can be a bit inconsistent and the runs are not all open, but the lack of lift lines makes up for all of that in my opinion. Coming from the Midwest, there have always been plenty of runs open to keep us entertained for 4-6 days of skiing. I skied last year at Copper Mountain for the first time and really liked it - again, lift lines were manageable weekdays in Feb/March. I've been looking for a prime ski season unit to purchase at Village Square at Copper Mountain since I got back. The only ones I have seen have been on SMTN and through the MLS system for 10-14K. Unfortunately Copper is part of the Ikon collective...decisions, decisions!
Decisions, decisions! In Colorado, I have to say that Copper Mountain is probably my favorite resort. I just like the way it is laid out, and it matches well with my skiing style. I am a HGVC owner, and their only Colorado resort is in Breckenridge, so even though my favorite resort is Copper Mountain, most years I buy an Epic pass because it is just too convenient to ski in Breckenridge when staying there. With my HGVC points, I usually have no problems getting several reservations a year, mostly just long weekends. But there have been years we have gotten the Ikon pass, as it is only about a 25 min drive from Breck to Copper.

Well it looks like my decision is made. My OGS was matched into the Marriott Mountainside Dec 13-20, 2020! Epic pass will be renewed.

Make sure you designate that resort and week when you get your season pass. You will get refund of 100% cash, not credit (less any days actually used) if resort is closed at least 3 days to covid.

For what it's worth for those of us in the East, the Farmers Almanac is forecasting a snowy winter development, called the 'snow train' through central Ontario, Lower Quebec and upper New England......right through all the Eastern ski resorts!

Another set of rules to learn. Hopefully the reservation system will not keep me from skiing on my ski trips.

Normally I don’t ski peak times. I did book a couple of midweek nights at the Hyatt Northstar Lodge President’s Day week when the opportunity present itself a few weeks ago.

If I understand correctly, season passholders can book their time during the early reservation period Nov 6 to Dec 7. If you are unable to get dates you want, you can request a refund for the pass. On Dec 8 they begin to sell lift tickets, including buddy passes and SWF. So, if you are a pass holder and know your dates I would think you have a good chance in getting what you want. Ticket windows will not be open at the resorts.

If you show up on a date where you don't have a reservation, you will not be allowed on the mountain even if you have a season pass.

Correct, but maximum 7 days of reservation at a time. So be sure to book the week you have your timeshare. It also effects the refund availability if the resort is shut down (you need to reserve your covered weeks.) Their lawyers are brilliant.

Also, they have not disclosed how many pass reservations there will be each day vs. big $$ cash sales. It's all very dirty IMO.

That’s what I mean about having to figure out the rules and think about it. Not sure I want to use my 7 days in a row. Figure that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays can be done last minute. I’m looking at using them for Sundays and Fridays. I use Saturdays for travel days.

I need to think about my strategy.
