Many points memberships revert to a premiere type membership with a home resort when sold resale. The problem is the resale point membership when sold resale retains the points maintenance fee but none of the advantages of the points. You would want to contact the seller to be certain that the points membership stays a point membership.

this isn't always true, but you really won't know until after you buy. I offered a price that I felt was fair in the event that all I was acquiring was club points. I got lucky and ended up with a 50 year contract that had 45 years on it and it retained all of the items i was told would be taken away . . . 5 years vacation banking, preferred points, borrowing from the back end, no fees for banking, etc. That said, I would never count on getting such a contract, but I got lucky.

Resortcom can tell you if the points transfer as point or revert to a premiere type week membership with a home resort. I wouldn't buy a points membership without knowing for sure. I'm glad it worked out for you Doug.

I tried to confirm with Resortcom before I bought, but they couldn't confirm details until I was on title, and the current owners weren't going to put me on title until i paid. Because of that, I made a very low offer expecting it to be denied. I offered just over $2k (and that included all closing and title costs). For me, it was worth 2k to get 45 years of 2550 club points per year (worst case scenario). But as you said, it worked out and I consider myself lucky.

My take is, VDP Cancun contracts that include Garza Blanca seem to retain all timeshare rights, except for elite. Of course, the previous statement is a guess, but I have heard from other people that were able to retain all rights except elite, and it always involved a VDP Cancun GB timeshare contract. I have already paid the first maintenance fee and banked it to 2028, and also used preferred points to book La Estancia in July. I do consider myself very lucky, because I got the same contract I paid Loreto over 30k for, and I got it for just over $2k. yes, it is only 45 years, but that didn't bother me at all.

I have been told that buying UVCI points in Cancun would include availability to the Garza Blanca Resorts, UVCI resorts and Loreto. If one of those pops up resale it would be worth checking out , imo.

With the last UVCI membership I bought for closing cost, I was reluctant to take it because the original membership showed a summer winter week combo and the owner said it had been upgraded to winter winter. Resortcom sent us the upgrade paperwork of winter winter combo so we took it. This was a private transfer without a broker involved.

Speaking of Cancun . . . I am never thinking about upgrading to elite, but one never knows . . . and I like to be prepared. As I understand it, where ever you upgrade, your contact takes that code prefix. So if I was to upgrade my Cancun week anywhere else other than Cancun, I would lose the 26 code and therefore lose all access to Garza Blanca, correct?

I can't say for a fact that is true. Certainly a consideration to keep in mind. I am aware of at least one elite member that I know well from time together at Arco that when they upgraded to Elite at Arco had the upgrade written as a separate but linked account so as to obtain Elite status yet retain their Cancun Club Caribe contract and thus GB access.
Your mileage may vary as the then current sales management may react differently...

I'm not sure how the upgrades would affect the code. I have never upgraded. I read the info about buying UVCI in Cancun from the facebook owners group. You could ask there as many owners have joined.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Right now I am trying to see if they will recognize my two 2550 contracts (Loreto and Cancun) as elite, and if not, I will start considering the lowest cost option (with the best benefits) to get me there. Initially I wasn't interested in Elite status. For the record, I still think the black towels are a joke . . . but when I found out that elite status would allow me to combine the points of my two contracts, that was a benefit I wanted. Also, gaining access to la estancia is a nice perk.
