There were 2 threads, and I merged them.

"Voluntary" ARDA-ROC charge

I'm reviving this thread to remind owners that their maintenance fee may include a $7 ARDA-ROC fee. If you read the fine print, you'll see that this is voluntary, and you can opt out by not paying it. ARDA-ROC is a lobbying group that helps protect the timeshare industry, NOT the timeshare owners. Diamond Resorts always include it, and I always call them to get it subtracted before I'll pay my MF.

I received my DRI statements and saw the fee and that it's voluntary

Awesome way to go to remind owners receiving their statements to look and see if it has been added and remind them that this is a voluntary fee. :hi:

It wouldn't surprise me if DRI took some off the top before sending it to ARDA-ROC.

On my Marriott bill it's suggested as $10 per Week. Worth noting, again, is that you must opt IN, not OUT, in order to pay the ARDA-ROC component. Online and on the printed bills you have to input the amounts on each line and as the total. I still would prefer that they not include ARDA-ROC fees at all with the MF's bills, but as long as they are doing it then opt-in is the way to do it.

i agree, id be perfectly ok with it if it was included on the bill, but the default setting was NOT to donate making any owner having to specifically choose to donate...vs the other way around.

one of the biggest money grabs in the entire industry IMO. all under the guise of "helping owners"

I 'voluntarily' send them $7 less than the total requested by my resorts. They always cash the check and never say anything.

$10 x 52 = $520/yr... mon Dieu! ;)

At my resorts, if you pay online, there's no opting. You just subtract the amount.

ACK! No! That's $10 for each Marriott Week you own, not $10 each week of the year. So my bill for two Weeks at a Marriott resort shows the two Maintenance Fees separately, plus opt-in boxes for $10 ARDA-ROC donations for each of the two Weeks.

At my SDO unit each year I call to have it removed and each year it takes multiple calls to actually get it off my bill. I've already called them once for the 2017 MF bill and was told the charge would be off by today and it's still on there so another call will be placed. This is such a pain the ass to call so many times to get this removed.
