So, i know the basic things, like creating an on-going search to get what you want, and that older orders are filled first, but what about people who dont sign up for an ongoing search?

Also, has DVC deposited (on RCI) rooms for September, October & November?

My dates and where I want to stay are wide open. just sometime between Sept.-Nov. 2014 or March-may 2015 or sept.-nov. 2015. i would really like to go this fall, but i do know that chances may be slim. how slim without on OGS?

if you place a dvc room on "hold", will it charge any cards you may have on file, or will you just be holding that room for a few mins.?

what if you book something, then find a resort that you wanted more available the next nite. do you get your $95 back? explain this to me, if possible

also, as a side note, i have Bluegreen. do i have "good trading power"? are all the available DVC offerings popping up for me, or does being an RCI member give you more availability?

Lastly, why is DVC/RCI depositing so many May rooms right now? last minute stuff? does that happen often before a new month begins?

thanks!! :hi:

First and foremost, where are your Bluegreen points? If they are in the Orlando area there is a regional block within 30 miles and you will not be able to use them toward DVC. Septmber, October, and November are seemgingly happening about now although because of the Food and Wine Festival there may be few deposits and will likely go to searches established many months ago. The May ones are likely cancellations that's why they are last minute.

Why would you not do this?

This does not apply to the Wyndham or HGVC mini-system portals. It probably doesn't apply to Bluegreen either.

If you're wide open on the dates and resorts (and if you have enough trading power), it's definitely not too late to set up an ongoing search. My guess is that you would have over a 90% chance of matching for this fall. And if you don't get one for this fall, you can modify your search to include spring.

There's no reason NOT to set up an ongoing search.

How much trading power do you need?

That's the million dollar question. If you look through the sightings in the members only Sightings/Distressed forum, you'll get an idea of the ranges that have been seen recently. It's a moving target, though, and one that RCI seems to change fairly often. I've had DVC exchanges in the past year as low as 25 and as high as 50+. If I really wanted it, I would make sure to have a combined deposit of at least 60 to cover all possibilities.

Without an OGS your chances for this fall are very slim. Almost nothing is making it to the website and everything that does is snapped up right away. With an OGS you probably have a chance at least for early September before Food and Wine. I placed an OGS in February for the second week of September and it was matched four weeks later so it is not too late to place and OGS.
TPUs are running high this year compared to last year. A studio at BLT cost me 33 TPU. I actually joined here to see if TPUs were really running that high and it looks like they are. Since have no wiggle room and had to have a specific week with a Sunday check in I decided to take it. I know last year a couple of options for that week came up on the website at the 2 to 4 month mark.

With Bluegreen points, there is a "straight" crossover grid. So it is not an issue of trading power as it is having enough BG points in your account. I suggest you put in an ongoing search. You will have to prepay your exchange fee. If you change your mind after 24 hours you will lose that exchange fee.

More help

I did not know until today (when i finally called my BG RCI rep service) that the $209 fee was just prepaying my exchange fee! that info would have been helpful last week when we first started looking:wall: so now i am set up on an OGS for this fall, next spring, and next fall. :cheer:

i forgot to ask the rep- how many resorts will fill in your "hold" category & how long can you hold a property before commiting?

Here's why I disagree. If ANYTHING appears on the web site, that means that there are more deposits than there are ongoing searches. Things do appear, even if they're snapped up quickly. I think a wide open ongoing search would have a very good chance.

[A gentle request: Please post any Exchange Company Availability on the TUG Sightings forum - that is the correct place for it, and it's a benefit of TUG membership.]

What could you possibly think the $209 fee was for?

And if you do it online yourself, it is less money.

Good luck and let us know when your exchange comes thru.

The OP also thought it included the $95 DVC fee that is charged to exchangers.

Some last minute DVC

I saw a post once suggesting that Disney properties often show up around
2:00 AM and also another good time to check was after RCI site was down for maintenance. I happened to check the next night and got Saratoga Springs for 12 TPU about 3 weeks out. Probably a coincidence but I took it and just thought "thank you" for the wonderful tuggers who were so willing to share information.
