[2011] Problems with flagging on Orlando Craigslist [merged]

With your research it seems way too obvious "the same commercial rental agency" is eliminating the competition. If you want to fire back, feel free to PM me with the name of this company for assistance in "leveling the playing field". Stuff like that just ------ me off.

Please post the name of the rental agency so we can all join in to boot their listings. They deserve it. :annoyed:

The best will be if this somehow gets attention of local TV station in Orlando. Media is always looking to beat down on craigslist and this will be another interested tit bit for media to report.

Craiglist Flag

Hi. Just checking to see if anyone had this problem. At the last minute I can't go on vacation to my Westgate timeshare so I decided to try to advertise here and on Craigs List today. Every time I post to Craiglist it is flagged and taken down. In the help forums on CL is seems this is happening to a lot of people. Some people think it is competitors flagging the ads so they are taken off. Anyone heard of this. Not sure if I can post the ad here but it is in the offered section for [specifics deleted.] Any help would be appreciated.
Patti

Yes - A number of us are having the same problem.

This is the deal: CL has no moderators. It's other CL members on the Orlando forum who are flagging the Ads and yes, I think they are trying to eliminate the competition.

I just ignore them, and post another Ad the next day. Hint - change the title & text the next day, or you will have to wait 48 hours to repost.

You can post your Ad on TUG on the Last Minute Rental forum as long as it's for the next 45 days, and you don't ask more than $100 per night.

Based on the number of ads this company has, I'm guessing they're responsible for the flagging.

(407)914-8047
reservations@flagshipvacationhomes.com
reservations@floridadreammc.com

They have over 100 ads that are still active. One has to ask, how they can have so many active ads when all the others are getting flagged. Perhaps it's because they're the ones doing the flagging?

If you search Craigslist Orlando Vacation rentals for 8047 you can easily find their listings.

Recently, the flagging has diminished a bit. I am only getting flagged about 25% of the time, instead of every time. I have no idea what's going on!

I did notice that the one company monopolizes the forum, with apparently no consequences.

Craigslist and Orlando

rental postings in craigslist orlando are flagged and moved within minutes of posting (and it was discussed here in length). This has to be some type of automated way to flag them since it happens so quickly.

Has anybody figured out a way to beat this (other than posting in nearby communities and not in Orlando).

It's not automated - it's other users. Craigslist only has a skeleton staff - the forums are moderated by other users. I believe this is an organized effort by local condo owners to eliminate the competition. It's been going on for months and month. I have tried many avenues for help, but basically, CL doesn't care.

How can other user remove your ads?

As I said in that other thread: the only way to stop this is Mutually Assured Destruction. Watch the ones that get through---those are the people who are flagging ads. Flag them in return.

Eventually, they will get the message.

That's how Craigslist works - there is a link in the Ad and other users can delete your Ad by clicking the link.

Please flag

My postings today were flagged and deleted within minutes. So, I went in and started flagging anything that was posted today and was still alive. These were all independent houses, condos type listings and not resorts. It took about 3-4 minutes of my time to flag about 12 of these. It will work only if others on TUG join in.

Please join me in going to: orlando.craigslist.org, click on vacation rentals and then start flagging (the links to flag are in the top right hand area of your screen).

DONE

for every one of mine they flag I send thirty of theirs to the morgue. I will continue every night til the flaggin stops. I open up 15 tabs at a time and it takes me two minutes to flag 30 of them. Dont worry I watch for innocent bystanders

I generally do not approve of eye-for-an-eye vigilante retaliation, but in this Wild-West situation, it seems warranted. Perhaps a statement saying, "Flag this and you will be flagged," will make them think twice... prob'ly not.

Nope - They call that a "rant" on CL and it will get you flagged immediately.

I am not sure if getting into a pi$$ing contest will be effective or not, but I guess it won't be any worse!

This was posted on the CL Orlando forum tonight:

FLAG BONNET CREEK OR WYNDAM POSTS
Date: 2011-02-03, 12:57AM EST
Reply to: hous-p2pcw-2194663114@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

These posts seem to be the only ones staying up.

My guess is this is part of the organized group that's doing the flagging on timeshare Ads, since Bonnet Creek and Wyndham are timeshares.

BTW - I have been reposting my flagged post immediately - 5 times today! I'm just going to keep reposting it - maybe they will give up!

I am happy to report that the "mutual" destruction technique seems to have worked and the flagging has stopped (or slowed down) for now. Yesterday, all postings from Monday to Wed were gone, but today, everything posted seems to be there.

They are flagging again today... :annoyed: :annoyed: :annoyed:

Maybe a post here about the 'flagging coalition for cl' then just link to it in your ad. The scum will eventually see it, read the thread, and realize a large community could retaliate.

Just a thought. I have no Orlando TS and don't list anything on CL.

I don't really want to lead those people to TUG - you cannot imagine the kind of doo doo they post on their own forum.

My Ad was flagged immediately this morning - I find I have the most luck if I post late at night West Coast Time, after the Florida locals have gone to bed.

Did a Tugger post this?

Posted on the Orlando Forum today:

[Deleted by me, since I have no basis to know if this is true or not. - DeniseM]

Whatever is going on there, somethings have changed. Maybe due to posts like this mentioned by Denise, the number of rentals (and the variety of rentals from all types of timeshare and private rentals) is up dramatically from the days and weeks prior.

Everything has been flagged and deleted from the 6th through the 10th! The flaggers are working on today's posts as well.

The local vacation home and condo rentals always are the last to go, so I suspect they are the ones initiating the flagging of timeshare owners - so I'm returning the favor. http://orlando.craigslist.org/vac/

I have an Ad for Tahoe and an Ad for Hawaii and they never get flagged - there is definitely something going on with the Orlando Fourum. On Sat. every Ad was flagged except 4 - 3 of them were from the same commercial rental agency...

You can never be sure who is flagging, but the company who has the 3 remaining ads from the same commercial rental agency that weren't flagged would be my best guess.
