In anticipation of vacations in November and December, I am practicing making my favorite margarita :D .

6 parts (ounces) Sweet & Sour
4 parts Tequila
1.5 parts Triple Sec
1 part Lime Juice
Ice until the blender stops swirling

I used to make these years ago before kids, then I stopped, and it took me a year to get the parts in the right proportion.

Do you have any great margarita recipes to share :whoopie: ?

There are a number of Sweet & Sour mixes out there. Which do you use?

Phil

Mr. & Mrs. T's. It's pretty reasonably priced and can be found at Safeway in Lahaina :D , at least it was there last year.

I just made a pitcher for my husband.

Oh, I use Rose's Sweetened Lime Juice. Premium tequila makes it smoother, but regular Cuervo Gold is fine, too.

3oz good tequila
1.5 oz cointreau
3 oz Cuervo margarita mix
juice of one half lime
ice
blend

This makes a perfect margarita.

1-1/2 oz. 100% agave Tequila from freezer (Hornitos, 1800, etc.)
Juice of 1/2 key lime

Wow, that's just a shot and a half of Tequila and lime...do you add any ice or just drink as is?

I will definitely try this, thanks!

Try making your own sweet and sour. First make simple syrup:

Mix 1 part sugar with 1 part water. Heat and stir on stove until sugar is disolved.

Then make sweet and sour:

Mix 1 part simple syrup with 1 part lemon juice.

You can experiment with the proportions until you get it the way you like it.

Does the mixture keep for a long time in fridge so I can make it ahead of time, or is it better mixed right before you make your drink?

Didn't know there were so many brands of Tequila- http://www.tastings.com/search_spirits.lasso

Basic Margarita ingredients: tequila, triple sec, cointreau or grand marnier & lime/sweet & sour.

A google search shows a plethora of variations. Yum. :)

Straight up... No point in buying $30+ Tequila and mixing it with water.
Can't have many, but good stuff...

Sometimes one can pick up Puerto Villarta 100% agave for $13 on sale. Not the best but a good value and you don't mind mixing other stuff with it so much.

When you get to Maui and want to try something different.
Try premium dark Hana Bay rum (it is the black one - Longs in Lahaina usually has it) and POG.

A Hawiian sunset is bubbly stuff and pineapple juce. We invented the Maui sunset - sparkling pinapple wine and POG.

Mine is similar to yours, but I use:
2 parts Tequila
1 part Triple Sec
1 part Roses lime
2 parts Sweet & Sour

After blending and pouring into glasses, I float Grand Marnier on top.

Bag O' Margaritas

Place one can frozen limeade into a gallon-size pitcher. Save the can, as it becomes your measuring cup; doesn't matter what size can, as using it to measure ensures the correct proportions.

Add:
1 can tequila
3/4 can Rose's lime juice
3/4 can Triple Sec
3 - 4 cans of water, depending on how strong you want them.

Stir with a wisk until frothy, then pour into a gallon-size ziplock bag and freeze until slushy. I keep a batch in my fridge all summer. Use an ice cream scoop if it's too hard to pour and let it melt a bit in your glass. Also makes an excellent ice pack in your cooler.

I use 1 cup Jose Cuervo Gold tequilla and 3 cups Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix add juice of 1 fresh lime. You can blend with ice in blender for frozen ritas or serve on the rocks. Use the squeezed lime to moisten the rim of your glass and dip in bar salt if you want your glass salted. I prefer making them by the pitcher instead of individual drinks. Any leftovers will keep a couple of days in the fridge. Just stir well before serving. Enjoy

I have two different variations (1 with mix, 1 without)

With mix:
3 parts Jose Cuervo mix
1.5 part tequila
.5 part Couintreau (or Grand Marnier)

Without mix:
2 parts tequila
1 part fresh lime juice
1 part Couintreau (or Grand Marnier)

that is pretty much the way i make my drinks, except, we NEVER have any left over to freeze. they are the most popular drink by far at any party. when we travel one of the first things my sisters ask is "does the kitchen have a blender?"

We don't spend the extra for Couintreau or Grand Marnier when we use mixers or inexpensive Tequila (e.g. not 100% agave or gold etc.) we just use Triple Sec.

When we use expensive Tequila we always use Couintreau or Grand Marnier.

Also a splach of Presedinte Brandy makes a nice additional touch.

The simple syrup will keep for a long time. When I've used fresh squeezed lemon juice, I have always used it up in a couple of day. Not sure how long it will last. With the bottled lemon juice (not as good a fresh), it will last for at least a couple of weeks. I usually make several bottles of simple syrup and mix the sweet and sour in smaller batches as I go.

Presidente Margarita

2 Parts Tres Generaciones Tequila
1 Part Presidente Brandy
1 Part Cointreau
4 Parts Sauza Margarita Mix
Shake and pour (on the rocks)
With a salted rim glass and a slice of lime
It's my favorite :whoopie:

We'd replace the 4 parts mix with 1 part lime juice.
Shame to add mix to all of that expensive good stuff:D

Unless you're making a Mauirita ...

2 Parts Tres Generaciones/Patron/ Cazadores Tequila
1 Part Presidente/VSOP Brandy
1 Part Cointreau or Grand Marnier
4 Parts POG (Passion Orange Guava)
1 Juice from Key Lime

Or you're making our Maui Tai ... :cheer:

2 Parts Hana Bay/Bacardi/Cruzin Rum
1 Part Cointreau or Grand Marnier
1/2 Part Macadamia Nut liquor
4 Parts POG (Passion Orange Guava)
1 Juice from Key Lime
1-2 Parts Hana Bay/Bacardi Select/Myers Rum floater
1 Plumeria/Orchid
1 Slice White/Gold Pineapple
1 Cherry
1 Umbrella

But then POG isn't really a Mix... is it:D

Start with Good quality blanco or reposado tequila
Tequila
Juice of fresh limes (proportionate to the number of margs being made)
Splash of Cointreau (not Grand Marnier)
Agave nectar (aprox 1 teaspoon per marg)
Spash of ice cold water
Serve over cracked ice

Skip the salt on the rim.

A true Margarita

Variation: Smoked Margarita
Add a splash of good quality mezcal
