2 days in cancun

We have two days (Friday and Saturday) in Cancun before my week at the Mayan Palace Riviera Maya begins. I am looking for recomendations for a hotel and location. I could stay in downtown to see whatever sites are there. (My husband abhors shopping.) Do you have hotel recomendations? Or would you recomend Cozumel or somewhere north or south that we will probably skip once at the resort?

My daughter stayed at the Omni one night in November before she went to our resort. They said it was beautiful and very nice. They paid less that $100 for the night. I think it's in the middle of the strip.

I read a review for the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya in Redweek that highly suggested the Paraiso? don't know about it. How about checking out these:

You can go online and speak with the "live help" at www.royalresorts.com for a nightly rate. Currently they offer nightly rates at the VCI which would include a 2 bedroom, 1 bath, living room, kitchen and balcony. We just purchased a one night unit for $129. Hope this helps.

I found this when searching for a few extra nights...VCI is original Royal resort and is rated 5 star....You can probably get $129 rate for 2 nights....

Am I missing something? What dates are you looking for? I have February 21 & 22 (Th & Fri) available at the Royal Carribean - lockoff unit, sleeps 2.
