1953 MG TD Roadster

Which he has on loan to the museum in Stuttgart.

Second guess: Audi quattro

Quattro was a rally car.

Porsche 911 Had the left side ignition and first gear down and to the left for the LeMans start.

911 is a good guess, but is their value in the 6 figure range?

Spend some time on Porsche forums. Old 911s are now out of reach for mere mortals. My car did well in the GT class. As far as I know, there are only two of them on this island. ;-)

Steve McQueen and Paul Newman were both fans. I met Paul because of my car -- I had one just like it when I was a kid. And he was at the curb, checking it out. We traded cars in NYC (his Datson for my Porsche) and drove to Westport, and then traded back. His car was a LOT faster than mine. Basically a race car he managed to get a license plate for.

Had no idea 911’s had become really, really valuable. I am an American Iron fan. Had an Austin Healy 3000 once. Nice car, but I sold it to buy a 59 Corvette. Solid lifters and 2 4 barrel carbs. Was stolen and destroyed in a crash while overseas. I wish I still had the 3000. They have appreciated nicely

Yes 911s are crazy right now. A few years ago they would have been cheap but all the nostalgia cars are through the roof. VW vans (especially the window van) are getting crazy prices.

I just took delivery of a 2023 Corvette convertible at the museum in Kentucky. I’ll suffer with that for now.

Tough way to suffer!! Will put you in my thoughts!! Enjoy. I test drove one several months ago, What a car!!

They certainly look great. I assume "Lamborghini" every time I see one of the new C8s, until I see the flags badge. Chevy hasn't hit one out of the park like this since the 1960s. What's not to like? Mid-engine almost-a-supercar which costs only slightly more than a loaded Soccer-Mom SUV.

I think it is very likely the best bang-for-the-buck car being made today. (Previously, I thought the new Lotus was the best bang-for-the-buck.)

It’s just an amazing car and like you said, the same price as a highly optioned pickup truck. In touring mode, it’s as comfortable as any car on the freeway (and 28 MPG!) and in sport or track mode, it’s a fire breathing dragon.

Hello TUGgers,

My brother-in-law was just gifted one of these from a family member and it is not in running condition, but the body is in beautiful shape.

He hopes to restore it, and I’m curious if anyone has done this and has any advice and counsel for someone embarking on this task.

Please advise and thank you!

Best,

Greg

I remember helping to swap the engine in a 67 MG Midget years ago. It was moderately easy and only some of my wrenches or sockets fit. I think it took Imperial sized tools. We did round the heads of a few bolts. I was mostly there for support and to drink beer. My advice is to get an ice chest and a chair and occasionally offer to help.

Bill
