Why not purchase a portfolio of Timeshares?
The objections about the HOA raising fees indiscriminately applies to timeshares at least as much (and probably more-so) than whole ownership condos. I have a 100% success rate getting a seat on the board of the whole ownership condos I own when I want one.
I have a 0% chance of getting on the developer-controlled boards of most of the resorts that I own, and I think that would hold true of most resorts that would be good candidates to own for rentals.
