Does the "1 in 4" rule apply for points transactions? I stayed at the Quarter House in New Orleans this year, via a points transaction, and hope to go back again in 2009. Please advise!

The question has been asked here several times and the answer is that for all RCI point transactions there are no 1 in four rules.

How about point transactions for weeks inventory? Does the 1 in 4 rule apply? For example, when I log onto my points account, then click on the weeks inventory (not standard vacations), does the 1 in 4 rule apply?

I am confused about this because the rule applies to exchanges. Does using your points for a reservation for a 7 nt stay count as an exchange?

I was talking with an RCI supervisor about another problem yesterday so while I had him on the phone I asked this question. We exchanged into the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya in Feb 2006 using points and were thinking about booking The Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta for Feb 2010 and he said no that the 1 in 5 rule does apply when using points for a weeks resort. So if we go we'll have to use our own Mayan Palace week and try to get a second week at another resort. Can't use our vacation fair week in Feb.

So, which is the final answer?

"no that the 1 in 5 rule does apply when using points for a weeks resort"

or

"for all RCI point transactions there are no 1 in four rules."

This is so confusing! :wall:

I thought owners were always exempt from the 1-in-5, 1-in-4 and 1-in-3 rules.

Any exchange through weeks, even using the weeks side of points, and the rules apply.

That is true but we own at the Mayan Palace not the Grand Mayan. We cannot use our MP week to exchange into the Grand Mayan but we can exchange in using RCI points however the 1 in 5 rule does apply.
