Title says it all, but we are in our first Wyndham stay at a place other than Bonnet Creek, and I have to say I am extremely impressed with Club Wyndham Westwinds in Myrtle Beach. The location is fantastic and it appears that basically every 2 bedroom unit has an ocean view (and there are no units on the first and second floor as those are the parking lot). The rooms are well furnished and immaculate, it looks like it was relatively recently re-done or else it is just upkept really well. The staff (other than the “concierge” desk) are fantastic as well. I’m really pleasantly surprised and looking forward to trying more Wyndham properties with our points, outside of the Disney World bubble.

As nice (and as cheap) as Westwinds is, I suspect most would place it at the bottom of a list of Wyndham's oceanside resorts in the Myrtle Beach area.

I think it's likely the most "no frills" Wyndham resort in the MB area, but it's well maintained, quiet, and as the OP said all rooms are oceanfront, which is not the case for any other Wyndham resorts in the area. If you don't want a bunch of kids underfoot and want mostly quiet and to stare at the ocean from the comfort of your balcony, Westwinds is hard to beat. We prefer TOTG personally due to it's proximity to a few restaurants (Snooky's primarily), and the local grocery store chain - Boulineau's - all within easy walking distance - but if/when we cannot find a a spot at TOTG our second choice is Westwinds. We shy away from Seawatch and OB because they are much larger resorts with a lot more people and kids always around - which we do not prefer these days.

What is TOTG?

Agree with the "no frills" characterization. That's a great way to describe Westwinds.

"All rooms are oceanfront" is not accurate. Units on the 4th through 10th floors ending in 01 or 10 are ocean view. But, it's a pretty good ocean view compared to some.

We picked Westwinds because it had the best TripAdvisor reviews, but maybe we’ll have to try some of the others next time.

I have not been to Westwinds in a while, and while the rooms, I think ALL the rooms, are directly ocean front, the rooms seemed a little dated and smallish compared to the other Myrtle Beach resorts.

Seawatch is my favorite rooms big and fairly modern, and most of the rooms have nice views in both North and South tower. The rooms at Ocean Blvd are very large and modern although view can be a complete crap shoot. Also if you get at Tower 4 it's not ocean side. Towers on the Grove is also modern and the rooms are probably the nicest, but the room layouts and size are inconsistent. Every time I have stayed there, the room layouts are different. They also have some units which do not face the beach, but at least they disclose that.

Never stayed at Dye Villas or Grand Palms, cant comment about them.

looking forward to reading your review! it is interesting to see your original post compared to some of the last reviews there!

I really like Westwinds too, and we’ve stayed at all of the Wyndham Myrtle Beach resorts. I like the smaller size of the resort and the units are very nice. We’ve always gotten an oceanfront unit there. Also fewer kids and less general chaos ( compared to some of the other resorts in Myrtle) is a bonus for us!

Reviving an old post.
I am looking for comparisons for Wyndham Myrtle Beach resorts. We would have a teenager and a senior traveling. I'm gathering info so I can book right at 13-month mark.
I'm leaning toward Seawatch.

Ocean Blvd and TOTG are within a few blocks of each other. There's lots of "stuff" and restaurants nearby. Seawatch is kind of secluded and out of the way. But I prefer the actual resort to the others. If your teenager wants to walk around nearby the resort, I would recommend Ocean Blvd or TOTG, but I have not stayed at Westwinds. There's really nothing to walk to from Seawatch.

We like the lunch specials at Hoskins on Main St. You can view the daily lunch special on their website, except Mondays when they're closed. We try to limit fried food but the whole fried flounder dinner is really good. We sometimes split the large seafood platter and order an extra side for dinner. Their pies are good, their peanut butter pie is a favorite.

There's a Goodwill Thrift store right across the street. I have to endure the lecture from DH about how there's practically no room in the car for anything, he's not exaggerating, because yes, I'm still going in to look around. Lol.

We've had good food at Riptide too.

We haven't been back to Westwinds in years, maybe 18? We really liked it there and DH keeps mentioning wanting to go back.

We used to go to Myrtle Beach in May and some years again in September or October. After moving to Florida we didn't get back to Myrtle Beach again for 10 or 11 years. Now we're back! Over the years we've stayed in all 4 towers at Ocean Boulevard. Only once at Sea Watch. A couple years ago we finally stayed at Towers on The Grove for the first time. We had a one bedroom ocean front unit with the living room facing the ocean layout. Definitely wouldn't have wanted a unit with the bedroom facing the ocean layout! We agree with others comments about the great location at ToTG.

Thanks for the quick reply. He is an early teen, so he would not be allowed to leave the resort by himself.

Interesting - we currently stay at TOTG for two weeks every year from late May to early June timeframe since our wedding anniversary is 5/30 - we got married on Memorial day weekend back in 1994. We prefer the three bedroom layouts that always have the master bedroom facing the ocean - we love leaving the sliding glass door partially open at night with the blinds drawn and hearing the ocean all night. These days we mostly book either a two bedroom deluxe oceanfront - and then request specific rooms that are really part of a three bedroom lockoff - or a three bedroom lockoff if we're hosting anyone during our vacay. AFAIK, all of the three bedroom lockoffs at TOTG are corner units with the best balconies/views IMHO. This year we have a three bedroom lockoff for two weeks since we're hosting others. Love love love the oceanfront master bedrooms - to each his own I guess LOL.

IMHO TOTG doesn't have many "good" restaurants locally within walking distance - though we do like Snooky's next door. Walk a bit or take a short drive and your options expand quite a bit though. There's Roca Roha cantina about 1/2 mile away - since we like Mexican food that's a frequent haunt for us as well. There's an excellent Italian joint called Crave that's a short driving distance from TOTG - and there's plenty of choices on Rt17 - tons of them really. We love Blueberry's Grill for breakfast/brunch for example - down at the Barefoot Landing. My absolute favorite is Fire & Smoke Gastropub - a bit further away but IMHO the best hole in the wall place hands down. Award winning chef and food there. Bistro 90 out in Long, SC is a great steakhouse. So many to list out really - feel free to ask if anyone is looking for restaurant recommendations...lastly we also love TOTG as it has a grocery store within walking distance - Boulineaus's (owned by IGA these days) - we love it and often find ourselves wandering down to this local store to pick up food on the daily to cook in the unit or just enjoying some of their easy picking foods like sushi, pizza, fried chicken w/sides, etc.

Do you prefer the bigger/busier resorts or the quieter/less busy resorts? Teens would likely be best off at either Seawatch or OB, as they are the largest resorts and have the most activities and amenities. TOTG is a good compromise as its smaller but still has some activities and amenities, whereas Westwinds is the quietest of them all (probably not the best for teens IMHO).

With the one bedroom oceanfront units at TOTG there are two layouts. One you enter through the bedroom and the living room faces the ocean. The other you enter through the living room and the bedroom faces the ocean. That was how the resort explained it to me and noted a request to put us in a unit with living room facing the ocean. There was no window in our bedroom so I'm assuming there'd be no window in the living room if you had the other layout.

It was just the two of us so although not a large unit, the one bedroom oceanfront was fine and had a great view. Now I might just be a wee bit jelly thanks to you and want to see if I can book a 2 or 3 bedroom oceanfront next time. Lol.

Iirc there was a seafood carryout next to the Boulineau's grocery store. It was also a Boulineau's business as a many others in town. There were a few picnic tables you could eat at between the carryout and the grocery store. We walked to the grocery store twice while we were there so it wasn't too far of a walk

Snooky's had some good happy hour specials.
