Have seen some pics/videos on FB page of S Kihei Road flooding & parts of road washed out (close to MBV entrance too) & sinkhole (close to WM Kihei, south of MBV)...
Kam1-3 beaches closed; lots of damage there.
Anyone of us there currently or any new updates?
Praying for everyone 🙏

This is per Google/Gemini AI:

As of March 16, 2026,
South Kihei Road
remains impassable
at several points due to severe damage and debris from the recent Kona low storm. The area near
Maui Bay Villas by HGVC
(located at the northern end of South Kihei Road near Kaonoulu St) is among the hardest-hit sections, with officials reporting road collapses and significant washouts.
Maui County.gov +3

Current Road Status (Kihei Area)
  • Northern Closures: South Kihei Road is closed from North Kihei Road to Leilani Road, and specifically at the intersections of
    Kaonoulu Road
    and
    Kulanihakoʻi Street
, which are immediately adjacent to the Maui Bay Villas.
  • Infrastructure Damage: Floodwaters undermined sections of the road, leading to asphalt collapses that broke sewer and water lines in the area.
  • Hazardous Conditions: Large amounts of mud and debris remain on the roadway. Crews are currently assessing damage and working to stabilize the ground, but work is expected to continue well into the week.
  • Open Sections: Further south, sections at Auhana and
    Lipoa Street
were reopened on March 15, and the road is generally open south of Kauhaʻa.
    Maui County.gov +6

Recommendations for Travelers
  • Avoid the Area: Officials strongly advise against driving through the northern Kihei shoreline area unless essential, as turnaround space is limited and many businesses remain shuttered.
    • Given the utility damage (sewer and water lines) reported specifically near the Kihei Bay Vista area, contact
      Maui Bay Villas
directly for updates on resort access and functional utilities.
    • Stay Informed: For real-time updates, check the Maui County Road Closures page or use the Genasys Protect app

Re WM Kihei (a little south of MBV):
As of March 16, 2026, the area immediately surrounding
WorldMark Kihei
is experiencing significant disruption, as it sits within one of the most severely impacted flood zones in South Maui.

Current Area Status
  • Road Closures:
    South Kihei Road
    remains closed
    at the intersection with
    Kanani Road
, which is directly adjacent to the WorldMark property.
  • Hazardous Conditions: The stretch between
    Kanani Road
    and
    Alanui Ke Ali‘i

is currently impassable due to extensive mud, debris, and standing water.
  • Park Impacts: Across the street,
    Kalama Park
has been described as a "maroon-brown pond" following the peak of the storm.
  • Utility Issues: While power has been restored to many parts of South Kihei, some localized outages and damage to water/sewer lines have been reported in the immediate vicinity.
    Maui Now +4

Transportation Near WorldMark Kihei
  • Pi‘ilani Highway
    :
This remains your primary alternative for travel. However, expect heavy traffic as detours funnel all South Maui commuters onto this single corridor.
  • Limited Access: Police and emergency officials are strictly advising against any non-essential travel to this part of the shoreline to allow cleanup crews to work safely.
    Hawaii News Now +4

Resort and Facility Status
  • Operational Readiness: Many neighboring businesses and ABC stores were shuttered over the weekend.
  • Health Advisory: Do not enter the ocean at the nearby beaches (Cove Beach or Kalama) due to a Brown Water Advisory; runoff in this specific area is particularly heavy.
    Maui Now +2

This is for West Maui/Lahaina/KBC etc:

As of March 16, 2026, the situation in West Maui has stabilized significantly compared to the weekend, though localized hazards remain.

Lahaina Area Status
  • Road Access:
    Honoapiʻilani Highway (Hwy 30)

is now fully open in both directions between Kuihelani Highway and Olowalu. Earlier closures due to flooding and assessments of the Ukumehame bridge have been lifted.
  • Evacuation Status: Evacuation warnings for the
    Wahikuli
    and
    Leialiʻi

neighborhoods (just north of Lahaina) were downgraded to advisories on March 15 as retention basin levels were successfully managed.
  • Local Closures: Front Street at Kapunakea remains a watch point due to recent flooding, and some single-lane closures are scheduled this week for utility and drain line repairs.
State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (.gov) +6

Kaanapali Beach Club & Area
  • Resort Access: Access to the
    Kaanapali Beach Club
via Honoapiʻilani Highway is open, though you may encounter roving single-lane closures for utility work between Fleming Road and Kaanapali Parkway through March 20.
  • Beach Conditions: While the beach is open, recent storm surges from the Kona low have caused significant coastal erosion in some spots. Debris and "manmade rubbish" washed up by the storm have been reported on several West Maui beaches.
  • Safety Note: Maui County officials still advise against unnecessary travel to allow crews to complete cleanup. All County parks and pools remain closed today for damage assessments.
State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (.gov) +5
Operational Tip: Most Maui Bus services resumed today, March 16. If you are staying at the
Kaanapali Beach Club
, it is recommended to stay on-site today as runoff may still keep local streams elevated.

This is Waikoloa/BI:
As of March 16, 2026, the
Waikoloa Hilton Grand Vacations (HGV)
locations—including
Ocean Tower
,
Kings’ Land
, and
Kohala Suites
—are in an area currently under a Flood Advisory. While the worst of the Kona low storm has passed, the region is still experiencing heavy rain and hazardous conditions.
Big Island Video News
Big Island Video News +2

This is P@P:
As of March 16, 2026,
Hilton Vacation Club The Point at Poipu
is open, as Kauaʻi was largely spared from the catastrophic damage seen on Maui and the Big Island. While the resort is operational, the surrounding Poʻipū area is still in "cleanup mode" following the peak of the Kona low.
Facebook +1

Current Status & Access
  • Road Closures Reopened: Major access points near the resort have improved. Peʻe Road (at its intersection with Poʻipū Road), which was previously closed for construction, is currently open.
  • Localized Flooding: Earlier closures on Hoʻone Road and Kuai Road in Poʻipū due to flooding have largely been cleared, though some debris cleanup continues in the Lawai and Hanapēpē areas.
  • Resort Amenities: The property is situated on cliffs rather than a sandy beach, so it was less vulnerable to the record-breaking storm surges that impacted other shorelines. However, the main pool and outdoor areas may still be undergoing cleanup from heavy wind and rain debris.
    Facebook +4

Regional Safety Advisories
  • Brown Water Advisory: A Brown Water Advisory remains in effect for the entire island of Kauaʻi. Runoff from the 19+ inches of rain recorded at North Wailua Ditch has made coastal waters murky. You are advised to stay out of the ocean at nearby Shipwreck Beach and Poipu Beach Park until the water clears to avoid bacteria and debris.
  • Trail Hazards: Authorities urge visitors to stay off hiking trails (like the Maha’ulepu Heritage Trail adjacent to the resort) as ground saturation has made many paths unstable and prone to landslides.
  • Weather Outlook: While conditions are currently drier, a new weather front is expected to bring more rain starting Thursday, March 19.
This is HHV:
As of March 16, 2026, the
Hilton Hawaiian Village (HHV)
in Waikiki is open and accepting arrivals, though the property is operating under a Flood Watch as the state recovers from the historic Kona low storm.
Hilton Grand Vacations +1
While the most extreme rainfall (which shattered records on March 13 with over 5.5 inches in Honolulu) has subsided, several regional impacts remain:
The Weather Channel +1

Resort & Beach Status
  • Operational Status: The resort is functional, but guests should expect some outdoor amenities to be limited as staff conduct damage assessments and cleanup.
  • Ocean Safety: A Brown Water Advisory is currently in effect for Waikiki. Storm runoff has turned the coastal waters murky, and officials strongly advise against swimming due to potential bacteria and debris. It typically takes 3 to 5 days for these conditions to clear after the rain stops.
  • Waikiki Beach: While the beach itself is open, high winds earlier in the week caused localized damage, including downed trees along Kalākaua Avenue near Luxury Row.
    Honolulu Civil Beat +4

Transportation & Infrastructure
  • Road Closures: Most major roads in Waikiki are open, but some key commuter routes are still impacted by storm repairs. For example, the Pali Highway off-ramp from H-1 westbound is closed for storm drain culvert repairs through March 20.
  • Power & Utilities: Hawaiian Electric has restored power to most of Oʻahu, though crews are still working on isolated outages in other parts of the island. HHV generally has robust backup systems, but localized utility flickers were reported during the storm's peak.
  • Public Sites: Most City and County of Honolulu parks and public sites began a phased reopening today, March 16.
Hawaii Department of Transportation (.gov) +3
Traveler Tip: If you have an upcoming reservation at one of the HGV towers (The Grand Islander, Grand Waikikian, Lagoon Tower, or Kalia Tower), Hilton Grand Vacations has posted a Travel Update confirming they are open but urging guests to monitor the Honolulu Department of Emergency Management for the latest safety alerts.
Hilton Grand Vacations

We are in Wailea currently and will be leaving tomorrow night. We had two weeks of beautiful weather then the storm hit. Wailea wasn't hit as hard as Kihei, but there is debris on the road and some trees down. The golf course we are sitting on flooded. The water appears to be gone, but the ground is saturated.

We haven't driven down S. Kihei Rd but have seen drone footage and news reports. The Hilton Maui grounds were flooded. Part of tne road around Sugar Beach, where the Sugar Beach Bakery is is washed away. There is a sinkhole in tne road near Kam 2.

Basically it's a mess.

I just checked the HGVC Maui Bay Villas under the HGVC Travel Advisory on owner website and it states that the resort is open and accepting guests. I'll keep checking back to verify resort status since I have a trip planned for late April at Maui Bay Villas.

should be ok by late April with some detours etc..
S Kihei Rd is a very busy road & I am sure they will put all resources on hand to get things fixed as soon as able to...

If you can find any of the drone footage taken along S. Kihei Rd. watch it
Clean up has started but for some parts of the road it will take awhile.

This is good news. I did see this was close to the highly damaged area so I was concerned it would be off-limits to owners.

We have been at Bay Club, part of HGVC’s Waikoloa complex, adjacent to Kohala and just down the street from Kingsland. View from our lanai overlooking the golf course just now

This part of the west side of BI apparently escapes a lot of the rain storms - the forecast kept postponing arrival of the Kona low through Thursday and Friday. It finally arrived Saturday with its of wind and steady rain, sometimes heavy. Yesterday evening we got a break of a few hours, and we’re good for at least a few hours this morning. More rain predicted, but not the high winds. We never did see thunder/lightning.

Complete repair of S Kihei Road will take some time. Water lines and electrical lines were damaged in addition to several washout of the Road.

drone footage taken along S. Kihei Rd

Before - LONG before it was MBV, it was known as

Kulanihakoi Gulch

I was told the Gulch was a natural water gathering area and that is why there is no pool there.

I saw a YouTube clip which starts at Sugar Beach bakery - it's actually one of the videos linked above - where the drone flies south and you can see Bldgs 2 & 3 with the gulch filled with water. They mentioned the development on Piikae Ave. between Longs and Safeway, and the drone followed down to Kalama Park (Kihei Cafe).

I was going to stop in Hawaii, and Maui before I headed down to Cabo Azul (still on for Sunday 22Mar) - The airfares were ridiculously overpriced and cut the Hawaii trip out of my planning - I had booked the MBV and KL.

Anyone have info of the MBV Beach restaurant?

closed (along with adult pool)...
Have sene many pics at the FB group of MBV..
S Kihei Road just outside was muddy but passable but they are using back entrance or construction entrance per folks.
Some ground level villas were flooded and the Gulch was certainly flooded during the rains but doing better per folks who are currently there..
Safe Travels!
Maybe meet up with @HuskerATL who may also be there in person at Cabo Azul, during your travels to save you from your next multi-centum retail purchase...
TY!

The Beach Pool is not the "adult" pool. The adult pool is closest to bldg 6.

I can"t imagine either would be open, I was more curious about damage - You can see that the S. Kihei Rd collapsed in many places, I would think there is a possibility of the Beach Restaurant at MBV to be severely damaged.

Yes pls; aware; we were there a month ago....

I found a YouTube which starts at MBV - the Beach Pool & Restaurant are visible in the beginning. (OOPS @mountainboy posted this earlier)

Was there any actual damage at MBV, other than the flooding in the grass and parking areas? None of the videos I have seen show any damage at MBV, so I'm guessing nothing too serious. On FB a few people mentioned the pools being closed, but that was right after the storm, so I assume that has been resolved or may have just been the general guidance to avoid pools during a storm..

None reported by folks who have stayed there (& per HGV MBV resort) except as indicated.. TY

any latest update from Hawaii? Will travel there on the first day of spring break. Hope everything will be better then.

when?
(We already had our spring break here in AZ already but know East coast spring breaks are later...)

Things are better, as shared in some other posts here in the HI forum...
Some areas sustained significant damage & hence longer recovery (like Northshore Oahu; some areas in S Kihei but MBV & KBC ok & good to go)
HI would likely appreciate your tourist $; may also see the HGVC FB group with many posts by folks re this, from those who are currently there..
Mahalo!
