If I book a changeable reservation online, I can change it as often as I want BEFORE 30 days without penalty/cost. Correct? (Note: I understand that if I cancel it before 30 days, I am out the reservation fee, unless I can use it someplace else, but I at least get my points back).
The next question is if I am not sure of my exact travel dates but know I am going for sure, would it be best, as long as I have the points (or borrow from the next year), to book 10 to 14 nights and then reduce it later when I finalize our flights (as long as it is BEFORE 30 days)?
For high season areas (Hawaii, Spring Break, and Carlsbad), would it be best to book it starting so that my 3rd night out is the earliest night I might stay and just keep adding days each day? Is this easier to do? This way I can change and remove the earlier days that I don't need once I secure what I need. I know this is potentially holding days from other people (but only until I can have 3 nights - minimum reservation), but is this what others do to secure the dates that you really need/want?
As always, thanks for your help.
