We are traveling to Newport Coast in a week or so and got an email from the room controller that our first choices (3800-4200 Buildings per TUG post) were not available (not surprising since it is an exchange week), but would be in the 3500 Building. I am afraid it will be too close to Newport Coast Drive and be noisy and no view.
Anyone have experience or thoughts on this location? (I did ask for a high floor as well).

Why not ask for one of the buildings below the Clubhouse area since it seems that you will not have a view of the ocean regardless. This would put you in a quieter location with at least some vegetation to buffer your views of other villas/road. These would be 1700 through 2200. Not sure if these are available to exchangers however.

We are at NCV now. We are in the 4700 building. Way too far away from anything. We were given a choice of first floor looking at golf course shrubbery, closer to the main pool area or the building we are in. We have a sweeping view of the canyon, but no ocean view. We exchanged in and own 3 marriott weeks so we should have been relatively high on the exchange food chain. It is a beautiful property, but way too big and spread out. Great for long morning walks, but bad for going to the pool, main resort area. The pool nearest us is on a steep 3 staircase hill above us. Interesting that the 3 buildings closest to that pool are not open...finished, but not open for use.

We are very lucky weather wise. Sunday and Monday were cool and cloudy until late in the day. The weather changed on Tues!! It is the first week of really warm weather we have had all year. (We live in Orange Co.) We woke up to clear blue skies, very unusual for the beach.

Very poor sound insulation. We have awakened early to loud footsteps above us, one being a small child that sounds like he is running laps in the morning. I can even hear normal tone conversation from the people above us. There is no excuse for that type of poor construction. Interesting we can not hear the people next to us.

Another observation is that usually we stay at a beach front resort where you can just walk out of the resort to the beach. It is a totally different experience to be near the beach. More effort and forethougt required prior to going to the beach. We walked to and from the beach one morning and had breakfast at the Beachcomber. Wonderful activity, but not a possibility with beach chairs, food and small kids in tow. When we went back later in the day we drove to the drop-off spot and one of us took the car to the parking lot and took the shuttle down. We are enjoying our week and it fit our vacation needs perfectly, but I don't think I would own at NCV even if I lived out of state. Too many variables for such a high priced resort.

DJensen have a wonderful week and I hope you get an oceanview!

Sounds like you are in the same location I had in June. 4700 building and soooo noisy!! I had hoped Marriott might have figured out the poor insulation problem when they built the newer units, but they are not any better and maybe worse. I could hear toilets flushing - the kid above sounded like they were running laps also - but not just in the morning. I figured I was an exchanger so didn't complain, but NCV is terrible when it comes to the insulation thing. And this was my first stay in the newer units - it felt like a totally different resort - long walks (or take the shuttle) to everything. Very disappointing - it was very nice in the beginning though the insulation has always been an issue. They should have put more $$ and work into that since the rest of the place is upscale.

IMHO and speaking from experience, the newest villa buildings are the worst, sound-wise, for all but the top floor. I almost never get top floor in those buildings, so I'd rather go old for a better night sleep and chance at the top.

I'm not nearly as familiar with NCV as I would like to be, but when we stayed there last year, we were in bldg. 3900. We had an ocean view, and it looks as if you'll be a bit closer to the water. We were in 3915, ground floor.
I don't know about the noise from Newport Coast Drive, but we didn't hear any at all. There is a greenbelt between the resort and the hwy, so I doubt if it will be a problem. Just being there was a treat for us.

We just came back from NCV last Sunday and were originally given a room in the 3500 building. It had an ocean view but I didn't like that we would have to walk across the parking lot to get to the main building to take the elevator down to the pool. I asked them to search for another room closer to the main pool with an ocean view. You have to ask for a manager or supervisor during check in since the regular staff person will not be able to manage this request.

We were given a really nice ocean view room on the 3rd floor in the 2200 building which I like. You have to go up steps to get to the pool but at least the steps are very close to the unit.

Have a great time! It's a beautiful resort.

I recently had a week at NCV in Blg 4700 and I thought it was just fine. Canyon/Golf Course/Ocean view from the balcony and we did not have any noise issues at all (except the horribly loud dishwasher). NCV is not billed as a beach front resort so I am not sure that your expectations were realistic. It was a VERY easy drive to Crystal Cove and the southernmost parking area (across from the south end of Crystal Cove Promenade shopping area) offered lots of spaces with a short, although very steep, walk to the beach. I will admit that the parking lot (Los Trancos lot) that leads to the Beachcomber is a long way from the sand! I look at NCV as more of a base of operations in a great area vs. a self-contained resort. The pools are OK and the amenities are limited but the real draw is the area itself (Balboa, Newport, Laguna, etc. + proximity to theme parks). If NCV was actually beachfront the units would have had to sell for 3X what they did for the developer to recoup their investment!
