AARP picks Puerto Vallarta as # 1

But hey John you are never home so why move to Mexico :hysterical:

We stay at home quite a bit. In fact I am at home right now. We love where we live which is why we selected it for retirement 8 years ago after spending 10 years researching where to retire.

We did include Mexico as one of the possibilities when I started my research. Bear in mind that my wife is from Mexico, we lived there for 4 years, I am fluent in Spanish and all my wife's family live there with a couple exceptions. However we eliminated it fairly early due to various reasons.

We would choose La Paz, BCS over Puerto Vallarta as a place to live.

I agree with you John. We lived in Guadalajara while my husband was in med school. We speak Spanish and we love to visit twice a year, but we will not retire there. We are about 2 years from retirement and due to the very cold weather in Buffalo, we are looking towards Florida!!

One has to live in Mexico before making an informed decision. Visiting doesn't give a true picture.

Where in Florida are you considering? We lived in Coral Springs ( metro Fort Lauderdale ) Florida for 8 years. Neither my wife nor I care very much for Florida. There are many areas of California, both south and north that we like very much though this is our favorite area. Arizona would be our second choice if we couldn't live in California.

I really like PV, but not sure I would want to retire there. Same for FL, AZ, or CA for that matter.
I'll probably say my farewell here in ID.

I spend part of each winter in PV, and while I don't think I could ever leave Buffalo full time, I have seen enough there to realize that there is a very large network of Americans and Canadians who season there or are there permanently. They have local theater, and quite a few "society" events, including a lot of charity events.

While I love the PV area and visit often, from the limited areas I have seen in Mexico, I would prefer to retire in the Cabo area.

However, as much as I like Mexico, for me, the area you retire is where your roots, family and friends are - 3rd generation Texan and staying; start of 6th generation coming in a couple of months. No way to move to a different country.

Mike
