"Nothing" available on Flexchange....is this a result of Marriott's new system?

Not much available at this point for the next 59 days in the Caribbean or other destinations. Is this a result of the new system?

I know the summer is a popular time but I am used to seeing Hawaii, Aruba, Caribbean...something like this during Flexchange.

I see Aruba Surf club for few SEP weeks and one November week with MY Oceana Palms gold.
I also see both Spain resorts for Nov.

I don't see St Kitts or Hawaii

For the last 2 months, I have been looking at April - May, and there were a lot of weeks available all over at different Marriott properties, including Spain. Now every week during this time period is gone, and it happened miraculously starting about Thursday or Friday.

Miracles do happen! You think? Or is it all smoke and mirrors?

good afternoon

In order for this ("points system) to work, the illusion (or perhaps reality) of dwindling II inventory has to be established...

The other part will be to rig it so some nice plat inventory is available in the "point" bucket. This thing will be "DOA" if word gets out sometime next year that there is no primo points availabilty...

I saw Marriott Kauai this morning as well as Ko Ilani, Too bad I couldn't go!!!!!!!

Both were 1BR units as I recall!!!!!:wall: :crash:

The only Ko'Olina I saw to exchange was a studio or two in december. Yet Getaways has tons of 2 bedrooms available (still only until end of December, but at least 6-7 dates) :wall:

I, too, suspect a bunch of stuff has been pulled away to make it look like points are the way to go. I expect it to trickle back in over time as long as they aren't actually reserved...

I am wondering if the people who actually join the points program might be offered bonus points for depositing high demand weeks to the points system. Much like the AC from II.

Unfortunately for us exchangers, I believe that this may be a permanent situation. Marriott no longer needs to deposit its developer inventory into II. They can first make it available to points owners.

The thing is that the inventory will sit there as well since there aren't very many points owners at this time. Once Marriott feels they have exhausted internal exchanges, then we should see more stuff showing up on Flexchange.

In all scenarios, however, the availability should be less rich.

good afternoon

The last thing MVCD can afford to occur is the following conversation at the Mountainside "hot tub" in Feb.

Camper #1 Hi.. I got in here for this Feb. ski week with a flexchange from my bronze Branson lock off!!! Oh, by the way how did you get in???

Camper #2 I just purchased 6900 pts for 63.4K and 2.4 K MF's...

You can imagine how "cold" that tub just became....

that's funny:hysterical:

glad to be of service

Perry is preparing Webinar's. Someone has to be the resident cynic. The sad part is I used to be Camper #1. Now that's over. To be very honest Uptrades were always a side benefit of meticulous planning and searching the II waiver wire. I just want to be able to do like/like stuff...

not sure inventory will be available with points at the desirable joints. I do believe the gig here is Sun -Thurs stays at primo joints if you have the ability (13k points) at 13 months, otherwise extended stays at other resorts in shoulder seasons. Could also be nice to make a 7 day stay wed-wed to save on airfare...

I just spotted a very, very juicy Marriott 2 bedroom week for $750 in Getaways for June 2011. Wow! Amazing deal for summer at the beach. I posted it in sightings.

You can bet I'll be hanging on to my personal I.I. account to keep getting the cheap getaways Marriott throws out there every now and then, to attract the "fresh meat". Yum!!

Not to throw a cold blanket on your theory but Summer always has the lowest number of flexchange exchanges available. I'd guess that the new marriott program has little to do with it.

If in several months, the normally large number of fall flexchanges doesn't happen then we may have seen the changes in the Marriott system have an effect.

That was exactly what I was thinking, but I was afraid that I was wrong. I cannot imagine that much extra inventory at prime locations during the summer. The only inventory I can see sitting around would be desert inventory because it is blazing hot.

I don't know the answer until we see search results for Flexchange, but I have always been able to get 2 br units for just about any Hawaii resort for any summer week including 4th of July.

I would be surprised if that is still true. But, time will tell. Not much has really changed over night. There aren't many points owners as of June 22, 2010.

.

With FLEXCHANGE? You are telling me that you have seen prime 2 bedroom units in Hawaii for 4th of July sitting around in Interval Inventory? I am sorry but I don't believe that. Sure, you can get them. I have gotten them as well, but I have to have an ongoing request. I have never seen them just sitting there very often. Sure, it happens once in awhile, but they get gobbled up quickly. The point of this thread is that there is not much just "sitting" there right now.

During flexchange I have traded into Hawaii several times. However the inventory always goes quickly. I never have seen something there and then 30 minutes later its still there. Its always been once you see it, it quickly goes...I dont buy into Marriott's pulling all their excess inventory.

If that was the case who is going to utilize all this excess inventory? It has taken Marriott 20+ years to sell 400,000 timeshares....how long do you think its going to take to get 25,000 new owners into the new program? From what I have read here on TUG probably less than 5% of the members have said they are going to sign up.

Are you calling me a liar? I think you are. You should know better by now.

Yes, you could always get July 4th week on Flexchange in Hawaii. Nowhere in my message did I say that they were just sitting there. Those are your words. You assume that is what I meant. It is not.

What I am saying is that over the years, Marriott has deposited prime 2br weeks at all Marriott resorts in Hawaii at several points during flexchange. That is why I own Marriott Summit Watch Bronze weeks. I am pretty sure that my bronze weeks are now worthless as Marriott won't be making those deposits any longer. I am not upset because I never thought it would last and I had several uninterrupted years of multiple holiday week exchanges to Ko'Olina, MOC and Waiohai in 2br units. Mostly week 51 and week 52.

Unfortunately, I think that party is over.

I agree. It will take some time. However, what will happen is that the best exchanges will be satisfied internally first instead of being thrown out to the masses where a saavy exchanger will have access to it.

So, the best exchanges will be had internally over time.

Ongoing searches don't work in Flexchange. You have to know the times of the day they are deposited and sit there like a hawk waiting for the mouse to come out of the hole.

Too bad you are learning this after the loophole is closing.

I was not calling you a liar. Anyways, Flexchange would never work for me in Hawaii. I plan our Hawaii trips 2 years in advance. I am working on my 2013 Hawaii plans right now.

For me, Flexchange is the chance to grab places close to home that I do not have to actually take vacation time for. For this year, we are doing Lake Arrowhead in August, Palm Desert in September, and Palm Desert in November. This keeps me sane between the big vacations we plan to Hawaii, Orlando, etc that are planned years in advance.

I know how to use it, but I have never tried to get anywhere hard using Flexchange. Maybe I should learn exactly when they deposit So Cal Beach weeks so that I can grab one of those.
