I don't understand why Marriott and the HOAs all tout their HD LCD televisions when they for some reason refuse to feed them an HD signal. I haven't been to a single Marriott TS resort that has LCD televisions and has an HD signal. We just returned from Ocean Pointe a couple weeks ago, and no HD, Beach Place also doesn't have HD, and I don't think I have ever seen it at Grande Vista.

I know many people will say that it isn't important because they are hardly ever in the room. We vacation to relax, sometimes that relaxing is poolside, beach side, or we just want to sit in the room. If I choose to watch TV and the HOAs invested in getting big flat panels, why not give them an HD signal. Is it just for the WOW factor?

I completely agree with you. I don't normally watch a lot of TV on vacation...but if I do...and there is a flat screen TV in the villa...then I'd like to have the HD signal to go with the LCD television.

This past February, I was at Four Seasons Scottsdale during the Winter Olympics. Since the HOA spent a lot of money upgrading all of the TVs to huge LCD Sonys, I thought for sure they would have the HD signal to go with them. Nope. It was just a standard signal. I was pretty surprised that even at Four Seasons the HOA didn't feel the need to provide HD TV.

That's one of my pet peeves too at all hotel chains with flat screens and no HD! I couldn't understand it either, until the mystery was solved for me last week at the Shadow Ridge owners' meeting....HD is on the way:cheer:

Apparently, MVC is under a national corporate contract (I think with Dish Network but I don't recall) and the resorts are all being actively upgraded (if they have flat screens). Shadow Ridge will get 24 HD channels soon (the LCD installations are not quite complete for all buildings in the Villages, the original development). So there you go...if you own at a MVC with LCDs and no HD, call Guest Relations or email your GM and you should be in for a pleasant surprise (if not, run for the Board of Directors!).

We vacation like you. Time to relax, and, for us, part of that means catching up on movies. We take a bunch of movies with us (have even re-directed our Netflix movies to the resort :) ), and only watch the satellite feed for the news. We gave up on expecting HD anywhere outside of our home. :(

Cheers!

We were at Barony Beach in HHI in March and they had HD. Had recently upgraded their "package" with their provider and had consolidated phone/wireless internet/TV with Hargray.

When I was at the Westin Princeville, they had HD tv's, and HD cable boxes. However, they used a simple coax cable to connect them! Are you kidding me?? The units had dvd player connected to the tv's with composite & L/R cables. I took two of them (from our two units), and was able to get component + L&R on one set. I can buy an HDMI cable for less than $5 (both the cable box and the dvd had HDMI jacks).

I know I'm probably being a little picky, but these units are selling for $20k-$50k, and you don't have anyone that knows how to connect an HD tv to an HD cable box?

Jeff

We were at Canyon Villas last week and we had HD. At the Owner's Forum, the Director of Operations said that all units there had HD-enabled TVs, but some units were not getting HD due to a technical problem that the manufacturer was investigating.

We had another TV problem. On one night, the TV in the living room turned on by itself in the middle of the night, and on a few occasions the channel changed on its own. My son was in a different unit and he had the latter problem with the TV in that unit.

Someone next door might have been turning on the TV or changing the channels. We've had that happen within our unit, but never from outside the unit.

The Kauai Marriott Beach Club finally had HD working when we were there this month. Evidentially they couldn't switch over until the hotel side of the complex was upgraded with new LCD and cabling.
