I will be staying with friends at the Flamingo in Las Vegas in a couple weeks. We have taken frozen steaks, and other random groceries with us before in checked luggage. This time, however, we will not be checking any luggage. I have looked at Vons.com for having groceries delivered to the property.

Has anyone had any experience with Vons? Or perhaps another company or method of getting groceries delivered to the Flamingo. We will not have a car, and really do not want to take a taxi to the nearest Albertsons, Safeway, etc. What we are looking for is some Select steaks, Beer, Vodka, Tequila, breakfast stuff, and various snacks. While the deli is great it does not carry the items we really need.

Any good suggestions?

i have not heard of von's grocery delivery service, but if it does in fact exist i'm not sure how you can go wrong. Safeway, Vons, Dominick, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Pavilions, Carrs, Genuardi's are all the same company to just name a few, so this is not like some craigslist guy doing your shopping for you. peapod.com is a service I used like 10 years ago and are still around they just go to the local grocery store and get the items you choose, but I don't believe they service the west coast.

I shop at Von's here all the time. It's the same as Safeway and carries many Safeway brands.

Thanks for the info. I know Vons is owned by Safeway. I come from a small community in which there are a couple Safeway's but they don't have a delivery service.

Karen, could you tell me how the quality of beef is at the Vons you frequent?

vons, safeway etc both carry USDA Select. They are alright for the price. I would rather opt for a grocery store that carried USDA Choice, as they wouldn't be much more $. But if Select is all you can get delivered, I wouldn't be picky.

I don't eat a lot of beef myself, but my husband and son have had no complaints about the steaks and hamburger we've gotten there.

The steaks at Vons are tender and tasty, at least at our Von's.

If deedman ever comes to Las Vegas and wants to be picky, you can buy USDA PRIME beef at Village Meats, on Eastern Avenue just past Tropicana. Its all hand cut to order, of course. They also have game meats, and a small, interesting gourmet foods section (including many New Orleans specialties such as crawtater chips).

that sounds like the best choice if the OP's budget allows for it, and if they delivered, but if you are talking grocery store meat most are select or choice. But I am definitely saving that stores name and checking it out next time im in vegas, thanks for the recommendation, I love elk meat and venison.

Shopped at Von's while staying at HGVC; about a ten minute drive. Quiite satisfied with the quality and prices of their groceries. When you check their web site note their specials.

I looked at the Village Meats online catalog. It is most impressive. I am sure they don't deliver, but I might have to find a way over to their store.

I have a 2 bedroom reserved for 4 of us, while we have 8 other folks staying at the Flamingo Hotel. Looking to have a great BBQ with good people! Fun time in Vegas.

Thanks for all the good info.

Do you know for sure if there are BBQ grills? You might want to make sure before you buy those steaks.

Does anyone know if one can check in luggage or carry-on a George Foreman Grill?

I have used the BBQ grills at the Flamingo HGVC a couple times. So, yea they have grills. All three properties in Vegas have BBQ's. Pretty nice ones, actually.

That's great information. Hope you have a great time here.

Hi Dave. In your original post you mentioned that the Flamingo deli does not carry items that you needed. We don't do much in the way of cooking but would like to pick up a few items such as coffee, breakfast cereal, and, most important, a six-pack or two.:) Does the deli carry these items? We will be at the Flamingo in late September. Have a great vacation.

The Flamingo deli carries the items you mentioned. I think they have a nice assortment.

Thanks for the information. Looks like the deli will meet all of our "cooking" needs. :D
