I have NEVER had brownies as good as the first recipe in the little book that came with the brownie pan set.

Amazing flavor and texture, and it was rather like eating a giant hunk of fudge, they were so rich. We substituted cocoa and butter for the unsweetened chocolate, because we didn't have the chocolate, and I would make them again with the butter and cocoa.

The brownies really do bake evenly and rise to the height of the pan. I am a big fan of desserts, and these were the best thing I have ever eaten, even compared to my favorite strawberry cheesecake and french silk pie.

Maybe I need to give the pans away, so I don't bake those ever again.

Ah ha - now we know why you have to ride 11 miles a day on you new bike! :D

Sweets are my downfall. :) But I really was riding my exercise bike 20 miles per day, until February, and I have gotten out of the habit now. I feel ashamed of myself for not continuing, and I will get back to that as training for our Rhoades Car, which we just got last Thursday. I am so excited about our new toy and want to ride it 20 miles per day, eventually.

I took a batch of these brownies to my Bible class last night, and the gals said I was not allowed to bring them ever again! :)

These brownies are truly spectacular. A person could start a business with these brownies and be the new Mrs. Field's.

My faves used to be Ghirardelli, which are in a multiple pack at Costco, but when I took those to the meetings, the gals resisted just fine. This time, they were oohing and aahing over the brownies and it really seemed like a love fest. They weren't even frosted, because they don't need it. One gal said, "are you sure you didn't add something green to these?" She knows me better than that. I don't need an excuse to eat sweets.

Is this what you have? I love to bake too. But I have to start to watch what we eat. I feel better thinking the stuff we buy from the store are mostly likely loaded with more fat and sugar.

Those are the pans, but my mother-in-law found them at Kohls much cheaper, and she had a 30% discount, so I think she paid about $12 with taxes for them. It's a bargain.

How sick is this: I am thinking of taking the pan set with me to Maui, with all dry ingredients, so I can bake these little beauties for our huge TUG get-together.

My son would say that's "sick" alright, except he'd be using the word the way all the cool kids do to mean something good. This is the 24yo who eats no sweets at all except brownies, and puts the ingredients at the top of our shopping list at home and whenever he vacations with us. I think his check-in routine goes something like, "get in, start the shopping list, put a bathing suit on and check out the beach/pool, help Dad with shopping, cook and start eating brownies ..." At home he might only make them every few weeks, but on vacation he keeps up with a never-ending supply.

I put the pans on my Kohl's shopping list, thanks. One more item to pack ...

Copied from the details of the pan advertised on janej's link:
Duwable non-stick coating

The brand at Kohls online is Perfect Brownies, and the link posted by janej shows several brands, Brownies in Minutes, Perfect Brownies, and another - The pans are probably similar, but which brand had the magic recipe?

And is it the pans, or the recipe, that's fabulous? Do you think that recipe would work in a regular pan?

It's the Perfect Brownies set. It's like an old-fashioned ice cube tray, with the divider. The set looks just like that picture, and the packaging is the same. There is a recipe for Grandma's Apple Pie Squares too.

Oh duh, you did put the name Perfect Brownie Pans in the title of the thread

But is it the pans, or the recipe, that makes the brownies so good?

Someone needs to test this - will require 4 batches of brownies, so I nominate SueDonJ's son as the guinea pig:

Batch 1 - Special recipe in Perfect Brownie pan
Batch 2 - Special recipe in regular pan
Batch 3 - Boxed mix (maybe Ghirardelli) in Perfect Brownie pan
Batch 4 - Boxed mix in regular pan (or could skip this one, since he's probably familiar with the baseline).

Could be the pan, could be the recipe, or could be the combination.

I agree we need some testing done!!

Can you share the recipe that came with the pan?

I like the one-bowl brownie recipe that comes on the box of Baker's Unsweetened Chocolate. I'd be curious to see how it compares.

I've looked at those pans and wondered if they were any good. DD made many batches of brownies this year for school and getting them out neatly is always the challenge.

We almost always make brownies in mini-muffin pans - easy to get them out, potentially good portion control (except for the temptation to eat 4 since they're so small :p ), neat to serve.....

I also always add an extra Tsp or capful of vanilla, and usually substitute a mashed banana for the butter or oil. Of course they're yummier with real butter.....but I do what I can to cut calories and fat.

I vote rickandcindy bake a batch for everyone who posts in this thread. do I hear a second? =)

Don't laugh!

But I made these the other night and my family said they were the best brownies I ever made.....I also sprinkled a few chocolate chips on top.

Black Bean Brownies

1 box brownie mix (family size)
1 15 ounce can black beans (low sodium or regular)
2 egg whites
1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Pour the black beans into a strainer and rinse well.
Put the beans back in the can, add enough water to fill the can.
Empty the can into food processor (or blender) and puree.
Add puree to plain brownie mix and egg whites. Stir until combined and smooth.
Pour into 13 X 9 baking pan and sprinkle nuts on top (or add the nuts to the mixture if desired).
Bake brownies according to package directions.

Makes 20 brownies!

I'm all over this one!!!

I think the least Cindy can do is post the recipe- with and without her 'creative' editing.

My favorite kitchen store has those heavy zig-zag brownie pans- like this: http://www.bakersedge.com/ I thought this thread was about. Anyone have/use these?

Black Bean Brownies

That sounds good to me - I love nuking the fat and upping the fiber - but I do wonder about after-effects from these.......

We are doing our taxes today. What a pain taxes are. I am all for a tax on purchasing goods and no more filing taxes in April!

Here is the recipe as in the book, but this is not the way we make it, because we don't have unsweeted chocolate, and we substitute cocoa and butter in place of the chocolate. So if you don't have unsweetened chocolate, use 3 T of cocoa + 1 T butter per oz of unsweetened chocolate. We will make them that way every time, because it's just plain great. These are chock full of butter.

Traditional Homemade Brownies
3/4 C butter
2 1/4 C Sugar
5 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
6 oz. unsweetened chocolate
3/4 C butter
1 1/4 C flour
1 C chopped nuts

Preheat over to 350 degrees F. Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Melt unsweetened chocolate and butter in microwave, stir until smooth. Add to butter/ sugar mixture. Stir in flour. Add chopped nuts if desired. Spray Perfect Brownie pan and divider thoroughly with nonstick cooking spray. Spread mixture into Perfect Brownie pan and place divider into batter. Bake for 30-35 minutes.

That's very similar to my own perfect brownie recipe:

2 sticks butter
4 squares unsweetened chocolate
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup flour
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
pinch salt
cup of nuts (optional)

I melt the butter and chocolate together, stir in the sugar, vanilla, and salt. Stir in the eggs. Mix the flour and baking powder together, then add the chocolate-butter mix, and fold together. Put it in a 9x13 pan and bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes.

We need a taste test comparison.

OMG, I am having a butter and sugar high just READING this recipe :p

Bought a set for my daughter-in-law who is the official little league cook for our grand-son's team. Everybody loves the brownies. When I bought this brownie pan it was a buy 1 get 1 free type of deal so we gave the 2nd set to our daughter in TN. Both swear by this brownie pan. :cheer:
