Marriott cancellation w/II

I canceled a MGO week last May, and now the replacement week is expiring this May. I noticed in my search that I can still use a "short stay" for that week, past the expiration date. Is that a glitch or is it II's way of making money on a few days, I would be willing to pay two exchange fees for two short stays, even losing a night, not to lose the entire week? Any thoughts?

I would book it if the system allows, it may be II's way of getting extra money from an otherwise difficult week(s) for them to unload. It has also been mentioned that if you book a short stay at a Marriott, your actual reservation will be for seven nights in Marriott's system. Though you won't really know what your check-in night would be when booking the short stay, you could potentially get 7 nights out of one if you can quickly change departure and return travel plans.

I don't think it is a glitch. I too have a replacement week that is limited by date, but the short stay is not. I think it is a very good use of the week.
