I have SVR-Cascades-Resale, which has just closed and been recognized on MSC as week 10, Even Fixed.

Even after reading for weeks...I guess I am still confused as to what to do next if my intent is to trade in II.. I do not have an II account yet. Do I go ahead and set this up on my own now or do I have to go through Owner Services? After that...what do I need to do in terms of exchanging for use in 2011.....?

Starwood Owner Services is only used when you want to make a reservation to use your week yourself. Only SVN members have a Starwood II Acct. - you are going to open a completely separate II Acct.:

Here is the info. from our Owner Resources sticky about how to set up your new II Acct. (It's at the top of the forum for future reference.)

Here are the II fees for 2009-

Basic Renewal:
1 year - $89.00
2 year - $178.00
3 year - $227.00
5 year - $356.00

Gold Renewal:
1 year - $143.00
2 year - $286.00
3 year - $366.00
5 year - $572.00

Exchange Fees:
Domestic $149.00
International $164.00
(You save $35 off these fees when you exchange into an SVN resort.)

I just used a 2-for-1 coupon code to open a new II Acct. for my own SDO week, and I got 2 years for $89. The code is: source code 93207. *Still working 6/19/09. NEW code good through 5/31/10 - source code - 93341

How to open a new II Acct. for a Non-SVN week - (a Starwood resale from a voluntary resort.)

1) Go to their webpage: http://www.intervalworld.com/web/cs?a=3000

2) Click on Create Password or join today (on the right)

3) Click on Join Today

4) Fill in the boxes (skip Enter Your ID) - click continue

5) On the next page fill in all your resort information. - click continue

6) Fill in all your contact info. - click continue (for phone number, leave the first box empty - it's the country code) - click return

7) Complete the Web Profile Info. - click continue

8) On the next page enter the source code - 93341 and click apply.

9) If the code works, then a new price list will pop up with the 2-for-1 option - select it and click continue to pay with a credit card.

Then II will confirm your ownership with Starwood and within a week or so you will be able to log onto your II Acct. and see your week available for exchange. Be sure it is listed as a fixed week 10, and not a floating week.

Once it is available in your account you can:
1) Do an instant online exchange for a deposit that you can see online.
2) Put in a "request first" with your fixed week (you don't lose your fixed week resv. unless the exchange comes through.)
3) Deposit your week and decide later what to do.
4) Do nothing until you are ready

What are your plans for this week and we can probably make some suggestions.

FYI II told me Wed that membership rates are going to increase "very soon".

Thanks.....but it is asking me for the resort code VIT or VIO - does it matter?

I'm not sure what it is for Cascades - will it let you skip that box and let them figure it out?

Unfortunately - No It wants to know what resort I own...when I put in Sheration Vistana Resort it comes back with 'no exact match found - please choose from following 68 matches...it then proceeds to list each SVN resort with Sheraton Vistana Resort - VIT and a choice button under the previously mentioned resort ie : Harborside at Atlantis - HRA and below it a choice button with Sheraton Vistana Resort - VIT next to it until it exhausts all the resorts like this with all the various levels of SVN/II membership...then it goes to the singly listed resorts and SVR is listed twice - once with code VIT and once with code VIO

The fastest thing to do might be to just call II and ask...

VIT. VI1 isf or SVN members, VIT is for non-SVN (lakes and cascades)

Well...now I'm really confused.....didn't see Jim's post until I got off the phone with II.

Initially the CS rep had trouble and had to put me on hold a couple of times...she finally re-entered my info as it appears on MSC's ownership info page which I read to her including contract and unit # and VIT. She said it wouldn't recognize it as VIT but when she re-entered all of the info as listed including the unit # it took it and she said the code was VIO. She told me the different codes were for which phase you owned which is different from what Jim posted.....I hope she was right....

She gave me the 2 for 1 price and a verification # and said it takes 3-5 business days to verify the info and to call back.

As far as what I want to do with this week - my plan all along was to trade in II for an odd year use elsewhere since I also own SVV- Bella-
Even year which I plan to use in SVN - hopefully....I'm in the process of patiently waiting and trying to get to get something for HRA as the 8 month windows open up...I know a long shot - but I'm not beholding to a specific schedule and can pretty much go anytime........ I've only tried twice since it was just recognized by MSC but each time the rep has asked me to consider WLR instead....are they not busy or is there something else I should know?? WLR IS my second choice but I feel I need to give my first choice a good exhaustive attempt. Any opinions??

I could be wrong but I am still thinking I am right. I do not see how this will affect your trading value so I would not be worried about that.

Another point here is that they are waiting for verification from Starwood. They can do this electronically through an interface. They are closed today and I do not believe that they will get to this until Monday. They will be able to change the code if necessary from the office here in Orlando.

I do suggest calling the owner services group on Monday and bringing attention to the fact that you are waiting on ownership verification for your II account. You should be able to get someone to expedite Starwood's verification process.

I saw the part about wanting to do a Staroption exchange into HRA, but what do you want to do with you II deposit?

With the SVR unit I'd like to trade it in II for a week in 2011......I'd like to find something in Spain but that's still a long way off and plans on where to go may change

Actually - in the TS reservation world, a 2011 exchange really isn't a long way off, since 2010 is right around the corner. You should put in a "request first" as soon as your dates are firm - at least 12 mos. out. Spain always has a lot of inventory, and you will be able to do an online search as soon as your ownership is confirmed with Starwood.

Thanks Denise....if I do a request first am I locked into that request or can I change it if I either see something else that catches my fancy or plans change? Spain is our first choice and right now we are not locked into any specific schedule - but what do you think our chances are of maybe getting a two bedroom - we may have some friends traveling with us?

I own a Cascades 1BR resale unit and it's listed in my II account as VI2. I was told that Lakes and Cascades were VIT but mine is VI2 in the account.

Update - SVR/II

Okay...last week I went through the enrollment process with II via phone...I did get the 2 for 1 code.

The code for SVR-Cascades, 2 bdr. non-SVN is Gold Select VI2....altho it is listed in MSC as Prime, Fixed, WK 10...it shows as VI2, Floating and it is listed as 2009 which confuses me since this is an EOY-Even....wouldn't it be listed as 2010?

Also since I did this over the phone ..the rep gave me a verification # to call back to see if my week was verified..I did tonight since I saw that II was listed today as the exchange company.....the rep at the 1-800-843-8843 # could not find my info with the verification number and gave me the # for the II/Starwood reps which is 1-877-782-7088...is this new??

Even if you own EOY, it will appear as an EY ownership on II - If you tried to exchange the nonexistant 2009 week, it would automatically default to your 2010 usage, so you basically just ignore the 2009 week. You should be able to see the 2010 week too.

If this is a TRUE fixed week, it should show as a fixed week and be listed by date. By TRUE fixed week I mean a deed that does not float at all - you automatically get that week and only that week. That's important, because a good fixed week will have more trade value than a week that has been given a generic valuation.

If your week is showing as available in your II Acct. online, it has been verified, and you don't have to call back or confirm anything. If it's in your account, you are good to go - except for getting it listed as "fixed." Double check if you own a true fixed week and then get back to me - I have a contact person at II who has been straightening this out for other fixed week owners.

I've been meaning to report back about the issue of fixed weeks at SVR-Cascades. As some of you may remember, my SVR week is designated in MSC as a fixed week 13. So, not unreasonably, I thought the original owner must have paid extra to fix week. It shows up in II as a float week, though. I called Starwood to ask about this discrepancy. They said that even though SVR-Cascades weeks are designated this way in MSC, they're actually float weeks! This despite that fact that a year or two back, I sent Starwood a note about this, and they responded back saying:

Our records show that your ownership week XXXXXX for the Sheraton Vistana resort is a fixed (12-10) week. What this means is that your deeded week (13) is auto booked for you and you may confirm it 12 to 10 months in advance. However, if you decide or prefer to not confirm your week 13 in advance it will become a floating week. As you are aware, you are not restricted to one week in the year. You are able to request a reservation for any week of the year but should you wish to confirm your deeded week you may do so 12 to 10 months in advance. We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused.

When I asked about this, they said that is a programming error. These are float weeks and they are NOT autobooked for you. You don't have any particular right to your deeded week. If you own a week that may be in high demand, do NOT wait until 10 mos. out to confirm your reservation, as it is possible (however unlikely given how big SVR is) that no reservations will be available.

To be honest, I wasn't inclined to accept this, but I have consulted with several Tuggers who own Cascades weeks, and so far everyone's does show up in MSC as "fixed."

The terminology can be misleading when they describe a Cascades ownership as "fixed". The bottom line is this....if the ownership has the opportunity to "float" to another week without using an exchange company, it will ultimately be looked at as a "float" ownership.

A "true fixed" product is one that strictly the deeded week and cannot be changed unless traded with II or RCI (i.e. Courts, Falls, Spas, Palms, Springs).
