OceanFront booking at Ocean Pointe

Actually the shaded areas at the Kingfish Building are admittedly scarce.

Many of the Palm Trees were destroyed in the big storm a few years back, so new (smaller) ones have been planted along the black fence that runs parallel to the pool along the inlet. It will take some time before they will be mature enough to provide shade which is acceptable to me (years).

The landscaping in front of the other four buildings is far superior in my opinion and offers far better shaded areas.

During Platinum season, compition can be pretty stiff for location. It's during the most popular weeks that one risks being on a floor lower than 4 or exhiled to Kingfish.

Doug,
We'll be staying at Ocean Pointe on an II exchange beginning December 26 this year. The view that shows up on the confirmation on my DH's Marriott account says oceanfront. Do you think we will have a better chance actually getting the oceanfront view if we request Kingfish building? It's just the 2 of us and we won't mind being away from the main buildings -- rarely visit the Marketplace, and prefer a quieter location. We are multiple week MVCI owners, but don't own at Ocean Pointe.

Thanks.

Julie

The Kingfish building is closer to the water than the others, so the views from the lower floors will be better as long as you are okay with the inlet instead of the ocean. I would say it is worth a shot and would likely request Kingfish in your situation.

Keep in mind that many Ocean Pointe owners use their weeks during Plat season, so you are almost certain to be on a low floor no matter which building you get.

Julie: If your confirmation from Interval says OceanFRONT then you will get OceanFRONT no matter what.

Granted, you may be on a lower floor, but it will be Oceanfront.

Be certain that your reservation states you're a Marriott owner as that moves you up the ladder for placement at Ocean Pointe. The foilage is lower around Kingfish so the chances of a good view may be slightly better. For that matter, as you go south at the resort the foliege become short and less dense. So IMHO Pompano and Cobia buildings have a better chance for a view of the ocean than Sailfish or Dolphin.

As mentioned, if you're reservation says ocean front you should be placed in an ocean front unit. I'd call the day of arrival to make sure you're in an ocean front unit and just to make sure they know you're a Marriott owner.

While this is true, it's a little less true for the end of December weeks. The really tough weeks in Platinum season appear to be in Feb.

To those who like Kingfish Bldg. - a question. Is there ample shade available at the pool? I have always stayed on the "main campus" and have managed to get a chair in the shade every day. I cannot sit in the sun, and last time I checked out the pool at Kingfish, it seemed to be almost entireley sunny with very few umbrellas. That has been my only hesitation in requesting to be there.

Thanks.

Here's some shots of the Kingfish pool. As mentioned earlier, the palm trees are relatively small. We're not pool people so I've never noticed if there was ample shade or not. There are 5 or 6 cabana's at the north end of the Kingfish pool that provide shade. I can't speak as to how hard it is to get one during the day.

When I was there in Aug they put some free standing umbellas around the Kingfish pool area so there was a good amount of shaded seating. The pool was never crowded.I didn't see anyone use the cabanas because they were simply too hot to sit in and gave you a veiw looking directly into the parking lot.
