My sister has had her eye on one of these cruises forever and there are some really good prices right now.

Any opinions?

We've both have multiple cruises under our belts, so we know what to expect.

Yes, highly recommend. You won't be spending much time by the pool due to the weather, but there are some charming ports. I tried to time the "turning of the leaves" in mid october a few years ago, but was too early as they turned late that year. The lobster gets cheaper(in ports) as you head south!

We have that cruise in our future some day. Which cruise lines are best in that area -- we are seniors. Which ports should we look for -- we want to include Canadian stops as well.

Hey Cathyb,

We're looking at Princess, as we've sailed with them to Alaska(sis once, me twice).

Carnival and NCL both sail out of NYC along with Princess. I figure you have to depart from NYC at least once in your life. I can pretend it's the great age of the ocean liners.

I think RCCL sailes out of Boston. I think Holland America also does one.

Considering the time of year they sail, I think they attract an older crowd. I think you would be happy with Princess. I've been on RCCL, NCL, Carnival and Cunard. Carnival would be my last choice.

thank you twinklestar :)

Hi! We did this cruise, last August, out of N.Y. on the Carribbean Princess!
The cruise destinations were awesome! The ship...not so much. We learned, after our return, that this ship was known for it's smallish venues (Theater, restaurants). There were way too many people on the ship, and not enough "space". We did the "Anytime" dining, which was a mistake. If we didn't make reservations, a few days in advance, we'd have to wait up to an hour to eat!

Of course the weather can be a toss up. We were very blessed with terrific weather, but my D.H. boss went on the same cruise, a few weeks later (In Sept.), and had horrible weather.

Good luck!

We have a hold on the 9/12 sailing of Carribbean Princess. $599 per person outside cabin.

So you would reccomend doing the traditional dining. :hi:
That's what I'm use to as I haven't cruised since the lines have started the "freestyle/anytime" dining. I think they already have a waitlist for trad. 1st dining. Sister likes to eat on the early side, actually the earlier the better for her.

we did the cruise a few years ago, make sure you bring sweatshirts if you go at the end of august or later, it got windy and quite chilly.

We haven't done the cruise, but have been to most of the ports, and they are well worth the trip...even better on a cruise ship, I imagine.

Yes, I would do traditional dining. Plus, your waiter gets to know you, and it's just a more personal experience. That was the other thing about this cruise... The employees just didn't seem to go out of their way, at all. This was only our 3rd cruise, but we were surprised at the low attention to customer service. Other than that, the destinations were AWESOME! Definitely do the Peggy's Cove tour, out of Nova Scotia, and the Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor.
I wish you favorable weather!

If you have questions about cruises, I would ask them at http://www.cruisecritic.com/ . CC has message boards and a forum for New England cruises http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20 .

TUG is to timesharing as CC is to cruising.

I'm a member here but also a member at CC. I'll be in Bermuda :) in October between timeshare stays.

I know what to expect, and would rather get some info from people here that I know where they are coming from and respect their opinions.

I'm just waiting for my sister to make up her mind, someone says "trip" and I'm ready to pack my bags!

my family went on a norwegian 10 day canada/new england cruise (stopping at 4 canadian locations include nova scotia and quebec and boston) last oct because I wanted to see the change of leaves. the weather is a little bit cold in oct but we have a good trip. I booked at the end of august and got a great price. I didn't plan the cruise in advance but with price so good due to the economy, I can't resist.

I like the freestyle dinning over traditional dinning because of the flexibility. I don't want to worry getting back to the ship on time for dinners when in port.

I have done the cruise on NCL. But last week was on the Caribbean Princess out of San Juan. She was in dry dock and has been refitted to resemble the Crown Princess. I thought the ship and staff were amazing. It is about 1000 people larger than the NCL Dawn but it never felt crowded. My only concern would be the amount of tender ports since she is so large....it is much easier to just get off when docked but you should be able to find that out by calling Princess or looking online. I say "Go for it!"

She tenders at Bar Harbor and Newport, it's on the paperwork the TA printed out for us.

Hi, Yes, she does tender in those ports, and it was handled very effeciently. No problems getting an early start.
