Staying at Westgate Lakes this week. I am a Westgate owner. They are saying I have to attend a meeting to discuss what things need fixing in my room??? Since they did not/have not asked me to attend a TS presentation, I am assuming this is their new way to do this?? Can anyone confirm/been throught this? I don't have to go right? I mean that can't do anything as I am not here on a TS promotion, just using my week.

Another sales gimmick!

When times are tough, people get creative. If they call again tell them your time is valuable, your consulting fee is $100/hour.

Call?? They escorted me to my room to "make sure everything was ok" at check in and told me the meeting was mandatory.

WOW

:hysterical: Wow. Boy are they hungry. Regarding "mandatory", is there anything in your deed or contract that states "mandatory"? If you don't believe so (nor do I), when they call ask them where it is stated in the documents that it is "Mandatory".

The proof is more than ample. Westgate is the worst

The forced cart ride to the unit, the demand to attend a "maintenance meeting", the not-so-veiled threats that you'll be charged for thigs if you don't attend and that, somehow despite being an owner, you MUST attend - nothing new for Westgate. Certainly not related to the current sour fortunes of the timeshare industry as it has been the SOP for over a decade.

Ignore them & disconnect your unit phones. You are an owner, you paid your fees and you owe them nothing more especially not your vacation time. And some wonder why the mantra is "avoid Westgate at all costs - all locations". These are the worst people and worst organization in all of timesharing - an area that already made formerly disreputable services like used car sales and injury lawyers seem squeaky clean by comparison. And Westgate leads the pack for sleaze, lies and proven (as in convicted in courts of law) illegal acts. Avoid them and NEVER buy from them.

Catching More Flies With Honey Than With Vinegar.

Don't they offer any freebies as inducements to get owners to show up & attend the so-called Maintenance Meeting ?

Or is it all threats & bluster & assertions that the meeting is mandatory ?

Sounds like bad marketing.

I mean, shux, how likely is anybody to buy more timeshares for big bux after being hoodwinked & browbeaten into showing up for a high-pressure, arm-twisting, guilt-tripping, psychologically manipulative timeshare sales pitch ?

Sheesh.

Tell them they need to pay you $200 for an hour and it is "mandatory" and they need to pay you prior to the meeting. And see the look on their faces :D

Hey if they can come up with this "mandatory" [inappropriate language removed] so can you. Don't give in. I hate it when the resorts pull this [inappropriate language removed] on you.

[This website is rated "PG" - I know you are upset, but please use appropriate language. - Thanks DeniseM Moderator]

Thanks and you are right it is my vacation time. Nevr had a problem with Westgate before but I'm not going to waste time in a meeting where they will probably try to sell me something

I own at Westgate and got fed up with attending maintenance meetings. I tell them what I would like to see improved etc - they take no notice. They tell us our unit is now worth $60,000-odd (ha ha) and then go away and leave you at your table for at least 20 minutes while they find your maintenance account. Of course, on your table they have left details of all the new Westgate properties and if you do actually stay and wait for your rep's return, they proceed to try and sell you more weeks/weeks in a different property.

Easiest way round this is to say yes, you'll be there, but go out and spend your valuable vacation time at Disney instead. Just ignore any phone messages and they usually leave you alone.:)

Very true...............I've been a Wastegate owner since 2004. I got "sold" by this sleezy group and I have NO respect for anyone there. The only time they call you is to sell you something. I was at my unit two years ago and I never plan on staying again, I will trade my week and go somewhere else like I did last year. Talk about a bunch of crooks, they should be ashamed, but they are not, from the CEO on down. It should be against the law what they do, but the State of Florida apparently doesn't care. I financed my unit for ten years and don't know of anyway to get out of it, still have 5 years to go, makes me sick every month I pay, and I have never been late on one payment.

I would tell them to stuff their meeting and don't waste my time.
