i have a studio/Marriott Shadow Ridge/April 17,2009-April 24,2009
banked with INterval

I would like to try to get a one bedroom/Marriott Shadow Ridge/April 17,2009-April 24,2009

do you think my MSR Studio will ever "pull" a MSR one bedroom
for exact same dates
once we are within 60days
or
not likely

thanks for help in advance

Have you tried yet? This is the beginning of the spring shoulder season, so I think you will have a good chance. If not before you go, then once you get there they will likely be able to upgrade you to a one bedroom. I would imagine it would be available.

Janna,

I didn't know they would do this...Does this upgrade cost additional money? Do you do it through the resort or are you getting on the phone with II to check their inventory?

Chris,

Upon thinking this over more carefully I'm not sure I was correct in what I said. I know people have traded their studios for 1 bedrooms and sometimes even two bedrooms, but I think that's done ahead of time if the resort doesn't have lock-off rooms or only has one or two bedrooms. I know someone told me at Shadow Ridge one time that they were upgraded to a one bedroom because it wasn't full that week, but this might just be done at one's home resort.

Basically, you need to ask some experts here at TUG because I am far from an expert and think I'm confused on this topic.

Yes, it's very possible to pull a larger unit with your studio trade for the same dates but only within the flexchange time period (59 days). I see it all the time with my units. It may be difficult to get the exact same dates since this is a high demand time, but it is possible. You may have to search II often and try searching in the middle of the night or early morning to find it.

It is not possible to pull a larger unit, or any unit, in your home resort with the AC you received from that resort. For example, if I traded in a studio in Timber Lodge and received an AC, I will not be able to see Timber Lodge units with my AC. I would have to use the studio to see Timber Lodge availability. It's one of the rules of use of an AC.

I own at Shadow Ridge. I did not think the OP was talking about an AC. I have banked my efficiency and gotten a larger unit within 60 days. I have also BOOKED my efficiency and grabbed a 2 bedroom within 60 days.

1965: What size is your Shadowridge studio? Are there more than one size studios in your development? I am trying to lockoff my DSV-1 studio and exchange for a second consecutive Feb. week at another resort.

That's right! I forgot about the flexchange thing and seeing larger units. Sheeeesh, this is all so complicated sometimes. Thank goodness my TUG friends keep me straight on all these details.

Has anyone been upgraded though onsite once you arrived? I know a woman told me at Shadow Ridge that this has happened to her before, but she said it wasn't guaranteed.

Janna-
The general consensus is that any size changes have to be done via exchanging through II and that the resorts do not upgrade. As with any rule, I would venture to guess there are occasional exceptions, esp. if the resort is not busy but, if any, they are rare.

Re-trading through II for another exchange fee has been frequently reported.

It doesn't have to be within 59 days.

I exchanged my Shadow Ridge studio side for a 1BR at Desert Springs Villas I, seven months in advance.

That's a great trade! Did you figure out how that happened? Were you trading in a higher season Shadow Ridge studio for a lower season DSVI 1 bd?

According to II, you should get a studio for your studio trade unless there is another determining factor in your trade. Either way, it's nice when those things happen!

pacheco: What do you mean exactly by 'booked' -- request first or was the deposit given to II previously and just sitting there? Please explain. TIA

daavidvel: I want to do the opposite of you -- change my DSV-1 studio into Shadowridge. Questions:
1. How far out did you do the request?
2. Request First or give them the unit?
3. Did you first reserve the full 2BR and then split them one year from when you wanted to go?

I am SO confused on this. I have talked with Marriott 3x and each time I get a different answer

Oh no! That's terrible. Don't you hate it when that happens? Why can't they just say they "don't know" instead of making up yes or no answers!

The only challenge I see with what you want to do is that it's high season when you are hoping to exchange your studio for a 1 bedroom. That could prove to be a challenge but I hope it happens for you. Maybe you could even get the Enclaves if they are not yet full?

Best of luck and hopefully davidvel will pipe back in.

I hope you're not freezing out there. We just had quite the hail storm this afternoon and snow coming down (but not sticking) earlier!

I booked my gold unit for Thanksgiving last Nov. and split the unit then. Wasn't a request (see below)
2. Request First or give them the unit?
The next few weeks in early December I just searched every once and awhile for Palm Desert units. (Didn't deposit first and do an ongoing search.)

3. Did you first reserve the full 2BR and then split them one year from when you wanted to go?
Yes, see above.

In searching the DSVII unit popped up. It was for mid June (right after school gets out), so not a huge demand week. Both were in the same season (Gold/White). February will definitely be harder. Are you looking for 09 or 10?

davidvel -- 2010 -- want to have two consecutive weeks in Palm Desert and have my 2 bedroom confirmed already for 2/6-13/2010. Hoping to trade my efficient at DSV-1 for another's that may be bigger :)

Cathy-

I looked this afternoon with my 1BR Gold MRD unit. Saw a lot of 1BR and a handful of 2BR weeks in Jan 2010. Demand index for MRD jumps a bit in weeks 5-10, but I would look a few times a day for the next few weeks with your studio as people reserve their Feb weeks and deposit them. You wil have Marriott priority and I hope you will find what you are looking for.

David
