Any Tuggers here in WKORV

Hi there,

Oh how I wish I was there to meet you!!! Mid-may for us so I need to be patient. How is everything over there?? How is the weather? How was WPORV?

Katherine

It was beautiful today, slightly cooler than normal, mostly as a result of a storm last Friday which actually was worse in Kauai. This is our first trip since the completion of WKORVN. We like the additional options now available: restaurants, pools, a second fitness center as well as the SPA and wellness center.

We were VERY pleased with WPORV..... to our surprise. We did not expect it to be the delightful retreat it turned out to be. The Princeville area is a neat place to explore despite the Princeville Hotel being completely under reconstruction and the loss of use of the facility- previously available to WPORV guests. We stayed at the PH 2 years ago and absolutely LOVED their outdoor restaurant and the spectacular view!

I shall write a detailed review soon.

I'm arriving 2/8 - 2/18.

I'm arriving 2/8 - 2/18.

we'll be there for our wedding. . .2/8 - 2/15 at the North side and 2 nights at the Sheraton after that.

If you see the large group of about 20 by the pool or bbq stop by and join us for a drink :) Aloha!

Great to hear - we can't wait.
Will PH be open by next Sept09?
WPORV Owners are paying in their MFs to use the 'other' facilities (except the pool) - should ask for compensation ;)

Congratulations!!!

That's where I'll be too, except I'm staying on at WKORV-N for the extra nights. They were cheaper in Starpoints at WKORV than at the Sheraton (12,000/nt vs 16,000/nt at the Sheraton).

Mahalo for the invitation. I'll stop by to say hi if I see you. Heather and Derick, right?

Yes, the Princeville Hotel is now taking reservations for arrivals after July 1st. It's also moved up a category from 5 to 6.

Actually, Princeville was a category 6 a year or two ago, and then dropped back down to a 5 last year (yes, it actually happens that direction, too -- at least temporarily, anyway!)

Yep, we're getting married on the 14th and i'm working with a concierge that recently contacted us. I've asked if it might be possible to get married on the property. I had heard Kaanapali beach was off limits for weddings but thought maybe we could have something short and quiet near the pools and close to the beach. . .probably around 9amish. . otherwise we're looking at driving up to Kapalua.

We'll probably be staying on the property the 12th and 13th (since the entire group will be there then). Some are coming in the 10th and others the 11th but mostly the 8th. We'll have 5 kids and 15 adults so and everyone is a pretty happy easy fun bunch. . .and not necessarly very quiet when having a good time.

Shouldn't be hard to spot/hear us. .just follow the laughter.

I'm using cash and points for the Sheraton because i didn't want to blow 10K to 16K. . .C&P is 4800 + $90 cash. Makes it easier on the pocket book but also helps spread points around, saving some for a trip to Vancouver BC during 4th of July.

Maybe we can get a Lava Flow at the bar while the kids swim. We really aren't looking to go out much or spend much $ on activities this trip so we'll be soaking up all the resort has to offer :) Cheers Henry!

I don't think this is true - ALL beaches in Hawaii are public by law, and I don't think they could legally stop you from getting married on the beach. Who told you this?

This year is our 25th wedding anniversary in November so we decided to celebrate a little early. It's just my wife and I this time. We'll look you up and say hi.

This time we didn't want to move and C&P is not available at WKORV-N. If I were staying at the Sheraton I'd use the C&P too. It's a saving of 11,200 points for $90 so the points are costing you less than 1 cent. That's a good deal. The 4,800 points are saving a couple of hundred dollars so you're getting value close to $0.05/pt.

Hopefully you can work something out to have the wedding on the property. If not, I've seen a few weddings over at the park next to WKORV. They usually have a kahuna come and bless the couple with a few people standing around. I'm sure I saw a wedding at Kahekili park just this past summer.

I wish you all the best in this happy ocassion! Vancouver in July should be great too. I really like it up there. I want to go to Whistler soon, but I'm back for few weeks in Maui in July. Maybe next year. My wife and I have many fond memories of BC.

Hauʻoli male ʻana (Happy Wedding),
Henry

Also, in September 2007 I attended a wedding of one of the staff at WKORV. They held the ceremony at a Catholic church in Kapalua and then had a party at the Westin. They definitely took lots of wedding pictures on the beach and I've seen other weddings take place there. They have usually been small, but I don't think there beach is off limits at all. Ka' anapali is probably too crowded in the summer, but the wedding should be possible.

I understand there is a ban on weddings on some beaches now (Ka'anapali was one) - I heard this last November from a couple who does weddings, but they say it still goes on.

I'm not sure about the North side but the WKORV is allowing them right now. . .not sure if it's a big enough savings to make the switch or not but i did see this when i logged in to Mystarcentral.

Combine Starpoints and cash to vacation in paradise.

Unwind amid the tropical beauty of Hawai'i when you stay at The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas on Maui. Rates start at just 4,800 Starpoints plus $90 per night.

To reserve, please call 877.619.0416 and mention rate code SPGCP. Reservations must be made 180 days or less in advance of your arrival date. For complete terms and conditions, click here.

I've thought about trying to switch but we have another couple staying at the KBH on the 11th - 16th so thought it'd be nice to be next door to them for the 15th and have brunch or something. Plus thought after 7 days at the Villas a change of scenery would be nice and hoping for a nice upgrade with our platinum status (something not really considered at the Villas).

What is the definition of a commercial wedding, vs a noncommercial wedding? One that uses a wedding consultant?

I hope it is a nice change for you, but after staying at the villas, we found the hotel to be just too busy and crowded.

Congratulations on your wedding - have a beautiful trip!

Good to know. I didn't realize it was a possibility. This time I just don't want to switch, though. The comfort of the timeshare just can't be matched even in the junior suites of the Sheraton. The point savings are not that much either and for now I need to burn off some before the next devaluation.

I could almost live at WKORV. I'm going for 3 weeks in the summer and for a change of scenery I just walk down to Ka'anapali and Whaler's Village but return when its time to eat, relax or sleep. It's hard to travel for any length of time anymore without access to a refrigerator, a kitchenette and washer and dryer.:)

The Sheraton is my favorite hotel there, though. I prefer the feeling of that property, along with the beach and access to Black Rock, compared to the hustle and bustle of the Westin or the Marriott.

GREAT NEWS!

I've been talking with a concierge, Jennifer. She checked in to the questions I had about having a wedding ceremony on the property.

Today she informed me since we're owners we pretty much get to use the property as we want to as long as we don't disturb others. . .

so this means i'll get my wish and will be able to gather somewhere "near" the beach or even koi ponds and have a nice little wedding ceremony with my family all there! I'm so excited I won't have to drive anywhere in my dress or worry about everyone else getting to a different location early in the morning!

I'm planning on something around 9am before the pool and beach activity get too intense. ..thinking i'll walk around and wave at the webcam, on the south side, in my wedding dress shortly after the ceremony :)
