First I want to thank Bill4728 for answering my private messages for help, but above all I'm very thankful for what I've learned by visiting this site on a daily basis. I still have a lot to learn, but I have a short-cut question for the TUG. My purchase came with 5000 hold over points from 2008 which as you know can only be used at HGVC. I would like to use most if not all of those points along with my 5000 2009 points at Hawaii or NYC. Can anyone explain if that is possible and how.

Sure it's possible. We had rescued points that we used for a stay last week at HHV in the Lagoon Tower. Club reservations begin at the 9 month mark. Hawaii is a popular exchange request so you should start looking right at 9 months out for the best selection of rooms.

If there's not a full week available, you can always book what nights are available and then keep watching. You can add nights as they become available. If you create different reservations for each block of nights, it is possible you'll have to move from one room to another but, many people have done this without ever having to change rooms. Of course, if you book a 1 bedroom for a few nights and a studio for the remaining nights, you'll have to move from one size unit to the other.

I can't speak for the other Hilton Hawaiian resort but HHV is a wonderful place to vacation. Great beach, nice resort complex with bars, shops and restaurants. The trolley stops out front and runs up and down the leaward shore and might be a good alternative to renting a car. I think the next time we go, we'll skip renting a car for the week and just rent on a daily basis for a couple of days. Valet parking at HHV was $29/night. Self parking is cheaper but still on the expensive side.

Welcome to TUG & Congrats on your purchase! :hi:

As soon as your purchase goes thru, you should be able to call HGVC and ask about using your points at the hawaii resorts or in NYC. But as Doug said the closer to the 9 month mark you can make your travel plans the better chance there will be availablity. ( of course for NYC the period of time is 45 days not 9 months)

That is a great call on skipping the rental car. We've been out to HHV the last couple years, and have not rented a car either time, with no regrets about not having it, or about not having to pay all the extra cash for keeping and parking it. The daily rental was perfect to get us out of the village and up to the Dole Plantation and North Shore on the days we did those things. Even at that, public transportation will get you around pretty well for practically nothing and just a little time spent figuring out the bus schedule (USS Arizona & Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay, anywhere in between, with absolutely no problems).

Enjoy the sunshine.

Thanks to all for the comments...especially about the car rental. Bill I got my account yesterday. I will call and have them walk me through the process.

You can call and get instructions, but only club season (9 month) reservations made online are free for changes. Otherwise there is a fee to do it with the counseller. If you think you may add days later, make sure you do them yourself online.
