Help me understand my RCI points

I understand how to use them, but not when my use year is. Let me explain:

In June, we purchased a timeshare affiliated with RCI points. We closed around September and set up an RCI points account (we already have a weeks account).

During closing, we reimbursed the previous owner for 2008 maintenance fees as he had not used his points, therefore, we have access to the 66,000 annual points for 2008. However, I received a bill from the resort due 1/2009 for 2009 maintenance fees.

On the RCI website, it reads:

Use year date: October 1, 2008 - Sept 30, 2009
Current Use year: 2008
Current use year balance: 66,000

My question is: why am I receiving a bill for 2009 at this time, if my use year goes through September?

Thx,

Aaron

This is an anomally with RCI Points. Our maintenance fees are due in July, but our use year starts in November. I don't get it either.

Points are not what they used to be. If I can no longer get my Disney tickets, I don't have much use for them. :( I own too many weeks to take advantage of the great bargains on last minute vacations. I need to get rid of some of my weeks. :) I am working on it.

I might use our points for airfare this year, but it will be at a loss. :(

Your Use Year is based on when you joined RCI Points. It has nothing to do with the schedule your resort has for Maintenance fees.

Shiela,

If those points are transfered, then should it not be based on when the original owner joined and not the OP?

Most resorts collect MF in January but you are able to pay an estimated amount early if you want to use the week before January.

The important thing to remember is that those 2008 points that have been brought forward must be used or at least booked before Sep 30, 2009.

It confused me as my RCI weeks resort collects in October. Also, I was under the impression my 2008 points would carry over until 2010?

Points asignment to use year.

Your 2008 Use-year starts on 10/1/2008 and runs to 9/30/2009.

From your description you get 66,000 points each calendar year. Your 2008 calendar year points are assigned to your 2008 use-year. You have till the end of your 2009 use-year (9/30/2010) before they expire. This is because points are good for two years.

The maintenance bill you recieved is for your 2009 calendar year points. The 2009 calendar year points will be assigned to you 2009 use-year (10/1/2009 -9/30/2010). These points will expire at the end of your 2010 use year (9/30/2011). RCI points can be borrowed one year ahead of time so your 2009 calendar year points could be used a the start of you 2008 use-year (10/1/2008).

Too complicate things more you also have an option to pay a fee and extend points that are going to expire for another year.

It is very important you understand this and track your points usage in a spreadsheet by use-year yourself. The accounting on the RCI web-site is not always correct. You can allways call and talk to an RCI VC and they can give you an accurate accounting of your points.

If you logon to RCI points and look at your account you shoud see your "Annual RCI Points Allocation" of 66,000, your "Current Use Year Balance" of 66,000 points and the "2009 Use Year Balance" of 66,000 points. So in reality you have 132,000 points that can be used now. If you accout does not show this call RCI or your home owners accociation (HOA) and ask why you are not seeing you 2009 use-year balance.

If you "Annual RCI Points Allocation" is not 66,000 points them my assumption from you description is wrong. If you give the correct allocation I will give you a better explaination.

I have the same situation.. here is what my account says

Use Year Dates February 01, 2008 - January 31, 2009
Annual RCI Points Allocation 116,200
Current Use Year 2008
Current Use Year Balance 116,200
RCI Points saved from 2007 Use Year* 61,500
Unused Saved RCI Points will expire January 31, 2009
2009 Use Year Balance 116,200

Can someone give me in idea , when the points expire.. how many I can use now. I want to book my home resort for 2010. So I don't want to use points for that year.

I am going to Cancun in May.. can I use the 2007 points to book something "NOW" for May.. like airfare or tours? Or do I have to actually book and use something before Jan 31st, 2009?

any help?

Your 2007 points will expire on 1/31/2009 and can only be used to exchange for check-in dates on or before your ending 2008 use year of 1/31/2009.

However, you may choose to pay to extend the 61,500 expiring points for another year. The cost to extend any amount of points over 14,000 points is $99.00 which is $.0016 per point ($99.00 / 61,500). This will allow you to use the 2007 points for check-in dates up to 1/31/2010. This assumes that the expiring 2007 points have not been previously extended.

IMO this is a very cheap cost to extend a large number of points, that is unless you can use them before 1/31/2009.
