So now my parents want to go to Manor club with us in August (we have our own Manor club reserved). Using our Aruba property (already deposited) I added Manor Club request for a specific week (Aug 8 - 15) along with the Kauai timeshare trade. My guess (what do you think?) is this will be a quicker exchange than Kauai.

We have 2 hotel certificates for the Kauai Beach Club- including one with an upgrade to ocean view. Nice to have a view guaranteed. The kids would have their room, we'd have ours.

My main question - has anyone stayed at the hotel on the property? I realize I'm giving up the kitchen, etc - we're not cookers on vacation anyway.

Thanks for your time, as always.

...has anyone stayed at the hotel on the property?

We've stayed there a few times on exchanges, but as I recall this is not two separate properties like, for example, Canyon Villas(timeshare) and the Desert Ridge(hotel) in Phoenix. The whole complex is a converted hotel property. I had heard at one time that the remaining hotel section is the east wing of the resort, or looking at the property from the beach towards the resort, the wing on the right side of the pool. Don't know if this is true or not, but I would suspect that the units in that wing aren't much different, if at all, from units in the rest of the resort.

One thing I will say, is we've been placed in the Ocean front units ( the wing that is parallel to the beach and closest to the restaurant) and the Ocean view units ( behind the big circular pool). I actually liked the view better in the Ocean view units. In both cases, the better views are in the higher floors as the lower OF units will have vegetation obstructions and the lower OV units will have pool buildings blocking the views. Just my personal opinion--I'm sure everyone has their own.

The TS at the Kauai Beach club really don't have a kitchen but a very small kitchenette. So you're not giving up much to stay in the hotel rooms vs the TS rooms.

We were just there and it is correct that the hotel wing is the east wing. I didn't look at any of the "hotel" rooms, but they had a brochure advertizing the hotel part and they had studio, one bedroom suites and two bedroom suites available.

I agree with MAS. We too have stayed oceanfront and this last time stayed in oceanview behind the pool and I much preferred the oceanview room.

Have a great trip.

I could get an oceanview in the hotel - cheaper in points - but is the view from the hotels the same as the TS? Is the east wing behind the pool?

If you look at either Google earth or Google maps you can see the layout. It looks to me like the view from the hotel section would be ok but not quite as good as from the back section. Direct line of sight from the hotel section would overlook the pool and the west section of the hotel with the ocean to your left. Again, I don't know first hand what the hotel section is like so can't say if the point differential is worth it. I think I would be more than satisfied with the view from a hotel ocean view room that was say on the 5th floor or higher.

Another FYI, from the my-vacation site: the rooms are being renovated from Sept 6, 08 through December 18, 2008.

We stayed in the hotel wing last January for one day and found that the rooms were much nicer than the time share rooms. The room we stayed in had just been remodeled and they did a nice job. I understand that they are redoing the timeshare units now so this may change.
