I'm having trouble deciding... I've been watching flight prices on Kayak and they are coming down but not enough. I'm afraid they will go back up. Should I wait or book now? We are traveling at the end of June/early July. Also, I really want a red-eye flight and there is only one airline traveling red-eye. Delta use to from my hometown but not anymore..

United has an option of a refund credit if the price goes down, so it doesn't hurt to book early. I don't know if other airlines do this or not.

Where are you traveling to? That makes a big difference in the answer.

For award tickets, I say book asap. Other tickets, I'd say wait a month or two.

Of course, if I could predict oil prices, I'd be so rich I wouldn't have to worry about airfares.

Doesn't matter how much the difference is. Credit is given as a voucher, not a credit card credit though.

Does the voucher expire?

Yes, it's good for a year. It also has to be for the same route. I have one for around $300 from a price drop to Honolulu. That will take a big chunk out of my next vacation flight.

IIRC, Travelocity and Orbitz also offer a refund if the price drops but I think its for the exact flights. That said, I only use them for research and then book with the airline. Eliminates the middleman and finger pointing if something goes wrong.

OTOH, if you want to make sure you get the lowest price if it changes, both sites are used by millions of people.;)

Cheers

At Delta the credit voucher is good for any flight,as long as it is booked within a year.

Does American give a credit voucher is price drops? Just curious as I just booked 2009 trip to Aruba for $479 from Boston. Thought this was a good deal (especially with the increase in airfare lately).

HI,
We travel to Orlando every year, leaving out of Hartford. I buy our tickets as soon as I can, because I have noticed that they continually go up in price. Of course these are tickets I purchase and not frequent flyer. Sue

Doesn't it have to be the exact same flight (ie time) as the one you booked? I must have misunderstood AA's site. I thought it said that you have to pay the $150 change fee and then whatever is left could be a travel voucher. Is there a fee that you know about?
