Hi everyone. Anyone have an opinion what my chances would be of getting
an exchange to one of the higher rated timeshares on the gulf coast of
Florida in late February to mid-March 2009? I am exchanging a one bedroom
westgate las vegas flamingo bay. Is it too late? I requested quite a few
resorts in the sarasota/marco/sanibel/longboat key area. What do you think?

I don't know the value of your resort, so can't comment on whether you have the trade power to pull any weeks that do become available.

It does seem late to be looking, though there are always deposits after the first of the year and cancellations. This may be more true next year than ever with the high gas prices. Travel will certainly be down from the norm.

If it were me, I'd open the search up to anything within those areas and then read the reviews if I got a match. Otherwise, better have a hotel reservation as a backup.

Las Vegas Westgate

I can see three strikes against you: a) your LV Westgate week is nothing special, there are much more desirable LV resorts; b) you are asking for a high demand Gulf coast location which has limited exchange availability; c) your time frame is high demand - low supply period when its difficult to get anything decent anywhere on any coast. If at all possible I would suggest you extend your search from end of January to end of March. In Febr. you will be able to get a week in overbuilt Orlando but not a Gulf coast resort. Good luck.

Judy - I'd put a request in to RCI for Feb/March 09 and make the search broad. I just got a week at Wyndam Ocean Walk in Daytona for 3/13/09 with a trade I requested in May. I traded a fixed week from Wyndam's Fairfield Bay in Arkansas which might be considered a less desireable resort. Depends on who you ask. If you can be flexible and go to any coastal resort, you'll most likely come up with something. The west coast of Florida seems to be more limited than the east. Good luck.

beach resorts on the gulf

I did a search with a holiday week 21. This week has great trading power, beach resort and came up with 15 resorts on the gulf side and panhandle. So they are out there if you have a stronge enough trader.

Panhandle is not in the same ball park in terms of demand/supply as Gulf coast south of Tampa. Also, studios for two are not comparable to one or two bdr. units. One needs to be more specific as to what may be availble for trade in peak demand time. Just recently II had Treasure Isl. condos available as Getaways in Jan.- Febr. 09 but I don't know what's left in the desired timeframe.
