What's the weather in October?

Should be gorgeous in October. Actually it's gorgeous year round. :D

We love beginning of October and end of September, but remember Ironman this year is on Oct. 11.

That should only be an issue if you're going to be on the island of Hawaii. I don't think the other islands are affected.

Thanks to all.

No wonder Hawaii is popular 52 weeks of the year.

Special thanks for the ironman tip.

More info needed

How does the iron man affect travel? I will be on the big island in OCT. at the Bay Club. I'm planning to leave on the 11th or 12th. Is the whole island shut down for the race? Since the race is on the 11th, should I wait until the 12th to leave, so I can get to the airport? If I stayed until the 12th, Can spectators watch the race on the 11th. Any insight would be great.

While the Autumn is not hurricane season in Hawaii remember that it is in the mainland. One hurricane headed for the Gulf or Atlantic Coast can screw up air traffic across the country. Be sure you have a change of clothes in your carry on.

That said, I like Oct a little better because it is cooler. Sep can still be pretty hot-- that Hawaiian sun is intense.

It is officially hurricane season in Hawaii. Pacific hurricane season is May 15th to November 30th. Iniki hit Kauai on Sept 11th, late 1990's, I can't remember the exact year. It was a devasting hurrican.

Although the likelyhood of the islands being impacted is low.

The running joke about weather in Hawaii is that the different between night and day is greater than the difference between summer and winter. So basically night is winter in Hawaii.

On the big island the main highway from Waikaloa to the Airport is closed during the ironman, as that is the road the cyclist use. There is a back road that is not so direct, but you can make it back to the airport on. It just takes more time.

You should look up your schedule and the races scheduled times. There should be something posted.
