 OK, I want to prepare myself for sticker shock although here in San Diego area it's pushing $4.60/gal. :bawl:

What is Maui's price and is there a station the locals favor to get gas? Does Costco there have a gas station?

We're also going to Kauai -- any difference in gas prices there?

Mahalo in advance :)

You can find the price for gas near Kahului here. I did not see Costco listed on this site, I'm not sure they sell gas as I am not a member and do not shop there when visiting. The price of gas at Costco on Kauai can be found here.

Thanks -- holy cow it is cheaper than here at home :)

We were pleasantly surprised to find that gas was "only" $4.25 - $4.44 on the BI last week. We were actually anticipating over $5.

We were surprised to see gas here on Oahu for $4.25. Since we also live in San Diego, we actually thought that was a bargain.

That's the first time I've seen Hawaii cheaper than home.

We're in uncharted territory right now. The price of gas is lower on Maui than it is in the Bay Area. Usually we're 25 - 50 cents higher than the Bay Area and significantly higher than on Oahu. I'm sure we'll catch up eventually and the prices may have changed since my last fill-up.

I filled up for 4.43/gallon at a new gas station on Pililani Hwy in Kihei on Sunday. The upcountry gas stations are about 10 cents higher.

Cathyb: There's no Costco gas station on Maui.

Yesterday it was 4.35 in Hilo and a couple cents less in Kona. Tuesday we bought some at Costco in Kona for 4.18!

Todays Kihei Maui price is $4.53 for regular then $4.63 and 4.73 for higher grades.

Yes, it was up. That same new no-name gas station on Pililani Hwy in Kihei that was 4.43 on Sunday was up to 4.51 today.

I ave noticed that the majority of the gas stations on the island have exactly the same price....$4.53, is there some type of price fixing on Maui?

We were in Maui late May...ahhhhhh! It was about that. It's $4.27 here for regular unleaded so that sadly does not seem high. We used 1.5 tanks of gas all week after driving everywhere in a jeep.

The gas station on Kula Hwy near the house you are staying in is usually one of the cheaper gas stations on the island. There's one or two others that are usually cheaper than the going rate. One in Haiku and one in Lahaina of all places.

Is there price fixing? Tell me why it costs 30 - 50 cents a gallon to transport the gas from Oahu to Maui (vs the 8 cents a gallon it costs to get it from half way around the world) and why Maui has higher prices than the Big Island and I'll answer that question, Bill.
