RCI has elimated the $49 fee to tranfer points from one account to another. Question: does RCI allow us to rent points to other members?

Last I saw no - but that was a stealth change around 2005 as prior to that I rented points regularly from eBay & other sources. I wish they would go back to that.

If there's no charge from RCI, wouldn't the 'rental' simply be between the two members? Why burden RCI with the reason for the transfer?

My guess is it is don't ask, don't tell. If it gets so big that either owners complain or RCI gets jealous, then it will be banned. Or, the transfer fee will be added back.

The best bet would be to have a third party intermediary do the auctioning on behalf of other owners. Then, it would be a lot harder for RCI to track it down unless of course they are the buyer of the points.

At the end of the day, I don't think they should care. Nobody gets hurt when points are rented to another owner.

The official answer is no, but you could always give the other member a nice "gift" on their next birthday;)

From RCI's view, they get hurt :bawl: since they would rather collect the $.02 per point. They don't have the foresight to see that if I can get a bunch of points from another member that would otherwise go unused, it might allow me to make a couple extra reservations thereby paying RCI more transaction fees.

. . . maybe, RCI is smarter than you think. Recently I "traded backwards" - RCI gave me BACK points and I paid them an extra $164.00 using but a portion of those points. We were BOTH pleased.

maybe RCI relaxing , rule on buying points ???

I know when I asked this question about a month ago, I got many of the same type answer’s .. that is…. “no, I don’t think so, but it doesn’t say that anywhere, so do at your own risk” I find myself enjoying and using points , but only have my points for 2009 to borrow, they will run out and I will rent some from RCI , but I will be behind again next year.. so I would love to just say buy one time say between 30K and 60K RCI points from someone who will lose them.. At, any rate , since I was brand new to points and confused , I called RCI and spoke with a knowledgably (hard to believe , I know) points rep… I also asked upon ending conversation.. “so I could just buy some points from my Brother n law?” “Yes , no problem the rep said.. it would be a $49 transfer fee” But I also got the feeling that they were very relaxed about members buying, trading, but I did not pursue further cause of discussion on this board. Now , doing away with the transfer fee, I wonder if they haven’t relaxed this no point buying outlook of their’s????

Be real interested in hearing any news on this ……… rule….

Thanks, John

so, where would this question be appropriate?

I'm a little short on a booking I'd like to do with RCI points. How would I go about asking a friend here to transfer some points to me for a reasonable trade or ?

You can do it in WorldMark and Fairfield. Why not RCI Points?

RCI makes more money on exchange fees than selling points for $.02/point.

Wyndham recently banned points transfers between owners accounts. But, you can still make a reservation for someone and get a guest certificate. There was an extensive thread on this subject.

This is good news but let's not dissect the details on these public boards.

Past experience has proven that here as elsewhere, loose lips sink ships!
