We have our choice of a 2-bedroom at MP PV or a 1-bedroom at MP NV. We have stayed at MP NV previously, so are familiar with that resort. We are familiar with PV so we know the advantages and disadvantages of Marina vs NV.

Reading reviews I can see that Mayan Palace NV is probably an overall better facility than Mayan Palace PV. If it is just DW and I traveling, we would probably opt for Nuevo. But a 2-bedroom gives us the option of inviting one of our children to join us. Thus, we need to decide if we should take the bigger unit at the lower quality facility- because of the option of having one of our kids joining us - or if we should take the smaller unit at Nuevo.

So my question is directed at those who have recent experience at both resorts, comparing the those two resorts. Again, I don't need to hear about Marina vs Nuevo, about Grand Mayan vs. Mayan Palace, or other resorts vs MP. Just how do MP Puerto and Nuevo compare with each other?

TIA!!

Take the MP P/V

Steve, the advantages of the PV resort are the smaller size, the great buffet that seems to have specials most of the time.

The 2 bedroom suite we looked at had a larger deck( lanai) than the NV units, and seemed to be much newer with updated fixture and furnishings.

You didn't say when you were going, but this advice is only for the next 6-10 months.
Grupo Mayan will be building new towers to replace the red and yellow buildings( the current one bedroom buildings closest to the pool.)
Also they are building another level of pools.
I have the flyer as and email if you would like it just email me, and I can send you one.

Tx. I sent a PM. We will be there in Feb 2009.

In that case, I may

be changing my recommendation to the Nuevo Resort as almost all the 1 bedroom units will be brand new with the larger decks, flat screen tv's, etc.

Add that to the new pools, larger resort with more restaurants, better beaches, etc.

Now the location, well you said you didn't need to hear about that:ignore:

Will the new construction at NV be completed that quickly??

My bro and sis in law stayed there in feb while we were at CR next door. Their 2 bedroom was very spacious and the studio side had two double beds. The balcony is a step out so no chairs on it. they had a nice view of the pool and beach. They said- and they have traveled extensively- the food there was wonderful. In fact, he just bought a week on ebay at the MP and wants a few more. He was one I never thought would buy timeshare but now he wants in after looking at a condo to buy in that area.

Its pretty easy to trade into the Grand Mayan.. why aren't you trying for that?

They just sent owners the email about the new building and larger pool at NV yesterday, so there is no way that it will be finished by Feb 2009. The email said construction will begin within 90 days.

I have stayed at both and really like the PV resort. The units in the building with check-in are like all other MP units. The building that has the restaurants is perpendicular to the beach and they have a different layout - the 2nd bedroom and bath are smaller than in the building by the road. The beach is not as large and we are beach people, but if you are taking people who have not been to PV before, you can't beat the location! I would go for the 2-bedroom unit myself.

We are staying on an exchange at the Mayan Palace NV July 5/12 of this year. Any information regarding the construction you could send me would be greatly appreciated.

It's not that we're not trying for GM - it's just what we've been offered. Various reasons for not holding out:

  • We have no flexibility on travel days or location.
  • We're exchanging through SFX. I have turned down MP with them in the past, hoping for GM and had the whole exchange fail.
  • We're traveling Presidents Week, which is peak demand period.
  • One of the options offered us is a 2-bedroom, which is an upgrade from what we deposited and has the flexibility for having one or more of our kids join us. If we did decline and successfully wait for a GM, there's a very good chance we wouldn't be offered anything larger than a one-bedroom. (Between the two options, we will likely take the two-bedroom unless some compelling reason emerges to avoid the Marina in favor of NV.)
  • DW hates the waiting game. Having the certainty of knowing that the exchange has been made has huge value for her.

Take the 2BR!

Since you don't want other comparisons, by all means take the 2BR. We have stayed at both. The MP in the marina is a great place--modern with excellent amenities. It is not old and worn out. The beach is not as nice as NV--but how much time to you actually spend at the beach vs. the pool? Also, why take a chance construction not being done. Plus, taking your family along is really cool.

I jsut spoke to a friend who had the same question this a.m. and I told them to definitely take the PV location for a whole laundry list of reasons.

Remember the old saying "A bird in the hand..."

Is the new construction to the Grand Mayan or the Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta ?
Do you think the pools will be affected at the GM ?
Thanks
Bill

I second the vote for the Marina one. We've stayed at both several times and like either. Two bed is a plus as is the location for your guests to be closer to town. And, by the way, when we were at Grand Mayan Nuevo last Feb. they tried to "UP GRADE us to what they said they would be a building where the "red and yellow" buildings are. They said this will be their newest UPGRADE from the Grand and you have to BUY into it! They said it WON"T be a Mayan Palace anymore. They had some fancy name for this top tier but I forget what it is. So I don't think we'll have any NEW Mayan Palace building there unless you pay big bucks to buy into it. Has anyone heard this or were they just giving us a big line of bull? And I didn't receive any email about it??? We own Mayan and Grand! Love the resorts but hate the sales group!!

The new construction is at the Mayan Palace in NV. The email that I received from the MP just said that they were tearing down the blue building (the first one they buildt in 1999) to build a new modern MP Tower building and were expanding the pool. - similar to what is happening in Acapulco.

I think another poster said that after this was all done, they were going to build the new Grand Luxxe buildings where the red & yellow buildings are. The Grand Luxxe is even bigger and snazzier than the Grand Mayan. We did not upgrade to it, but did go to the owner's update in Mazatlan.

How close is the Grand Mayan to the Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta ? Is the new constuction going to be a problem for guests at the Grand Mayan next January ?
Thanks for the updates.

Same grounds, but a 10 minute walk away. There has been continuous construction since we bout into GM about 5 years ago, and no disruptions. They did something similar in Acapulco a couple of years ago, and we didn't hear any of the construction.

Now I understand.. Presidents week is hard. I was going to suggest SFX, but that's what you're using.
You're right.. I would take what you can get.

I would never trust RCI for a Mayan trade.. too many horror stories and cancellations. For everything else, RCI is great. Some reason they have a problem with the Mayan resorts.

Can some one explain the difference in the Grand Mayan and the Sea Garden resort?
We thought we were purchasing a Grand Mayan in Cabo and now told we have Sea Garden.
Don't know how this happened. ANY HELP?

There Is a huge difference. If you were told that you bought into the Grand Mayan and ended up with the Sea Garden, you were ripped off.
Try to cancel your contract immediately. I believe that you have 5 days to cancel. If you are within the 5 days, go to any Grupo Mayan resort or contact them by phone and tell them you want to cancel.

You also need to contact Profeco. It is a Mexican consumer protction agency. Tell them your story. They will try to help you.

nana7 - the Grupo Mayan has several levels of properties. Kind of like comparing Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, and Inter-Continental Hotels - the same group owns them, but there is a BIG difference in the entry level hotel and top of the line one.

The Sea Garden is the lower end and lowest price. The next level is the Mayan Palace, and they have now started selling these as Mayan Palace Regency (these are the same units with extra "benefits"). The next level is the Grand Mayan, and they are now building the new Grand Luxxe resorts.

Thank you so much..this was not explained to us...and we ended up with a Sea Garden...now trying to get out of it. I have called 3 times today and no one will give me an answer. nor call me back. this is why they 'get you' and I can't believe it happened to me.
Now what is the next step?

Quit going to timeshare presentation's !!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to burst your bubble but my portfolio is100% RESALE !!!!

Don't call them but read your contract again and the fine print too. There is a rescission notice in the package that you must sign and date and send back to them. You have to do this within five days and you need to follow the instructions 100%. Make copies of everything and make sure you have proof that you sent it.

Did you sign a waiver by any chance? If so, don't worry about it because it is against Mexican law. They cannot take your right away to rescind your contract if you bought a timeshare. If it is a club, then I don't know what your rights are.

There is a sticky at the top of the page of the Mexican forum. I would read it quickly and the contract too. Do not delay!
