Vistana Beach Club

It assures one can only get a studio for the 2BR you are depositing.

Only if you limit yourself to the highest season. 76k SOs can get you more than a week in Cancun, just not year-round.

Good point. Off season it's ok. And interestingly they are offering 76,000 SOs to all weeks at Fountains. 1-52. Wierd. I believe the SP conversion will depend on seasons. 42,000 or 22,000 SPs/year based on high season or low season.

It is better than Lakes and Cascades. I bet they will increase those SOs to match up with Fountains soon enough. Otherwise it will be a huge mess keeping track of all these point values.

What if you wanted to add more Starpoints to get into a resort, can you rent them? Or do you have to borrow them?

you are mixing up starpoints with staroptions. the only way to get staroptions is to own starwood developer weeks. if you purchased a mandatory resale you would not be able to combine the staroptions, so unfortunately a direct sale from starwood is your only option.

Borrowing StarOptions from a future year is tough because you have to pay MFs in advance plus it puts you in the Options Exchange period, which means you can't book prior to the 90 day window.

If it's a non-high season, I'd book my home resort or trade into another resort using my StarOptions, then I'd look for ways to extend my stay outside of SVN. Being able to book villas for StarPoints is a great way to do this, which is why the Starwood AMEX is so nice.

i also book a starwood resort at the hotel (where there is Ts) with starpoints a year or more in advance for the exact dates which i would like to get the timeshare for, so this way i can book my airfare ahead of time and get to use FF miles. and then at 8 months out i try to book the timeshare and when i get what i want then i cancel the hotel stay and put the starpoints back into my account.

And to go a step further, you cannot (legally) rent Starpoints or Staroptions.

Pointsjunkie, sounds like a good plan! I've noticed that it's a lot easier getting FF flights on weekdays.
