Just purchased week 41 at Marriott Monarch for a really good price. I hope to able to trade through II for something decent within the Marriott System. I also own Cliffs Club in Kaui and have been making good trades for 10 years.

It was a deal I could not say no to. (under $2,000) to get into the Marriott system.

What do you think?

Early October? Not a bad time to be at the HHI. We have been to the Monarch twice and I think that it is a fine, underrated, resort. Good location on the beach with nice landscaping. Great price. Lots of points.

That's correct. No Marriott Rewards points, since you didn't buy from Marriott. But lots of good points (amenities, location, etc.) about the resort, which is what I believe Steve meant.

Do you think now that I am in the Marriott system I will get better exchanges the my non marriott (cliffs club) in kaui. If so i may sell my cliffs club.

You will definitely have a better chance at exchanging into Marriotts, because of the 24-day internal exchange preference that Marriott owners enjoy when using their Marriott week for the exchange.

However, before selling your Cliffs Club week, you should do some online II trade tests - using both weeks - to see what the differences are, especially for non-Marriotts.

IMHO 2k is worth it. Early October in HH is very nice. Congratulations and welcome to Marriott!

Marriott Monarch

We stayed at Monarch in late August 2006 on a trade, and enjoy the great location, and the units were in good condition. Wireless is free in all units.

We are going back to Monarch this fall on a trade.

Under 2K for a week 41, was a great price.

Monarch trades both with II and RCI. Check out the Monarch calendar. Their week are one week before the other Marriott on Hilton Head. So if you have a week 41 at Monarch, it would be like having a week 40 at the other resorts.

I don't consider this a great buy.....I consider this a once in a lifetime buy, that I would have bought multiple weeks at that price. Especially if it is true about the Monarch being one week sooner than the other Marriott HHIs. Early Oct is still very beach like, but without the massive crowds. I know Monarch might not be quite as nice as the other big 3, but its still oceanfront and its still a Marriott, so I say this is a major score. I love this area and this season so much, I'm accumulating these gold weeks at GO and spending much more. I would have bought that week for twice what you paid.

Curious as to where you saw this week?

Regards.
Joe

I am wrong [/COLOR]I just looked at the closing documents and I noticed it was week 44. I hope that this will not make to much of a diffrence in trading power. Week 44 usually is the last couple days of October into the first week of November.

Sorry for the confusion.

I still think it is a good deal?

Barry

Monarch

Week 44 Is Nov 8-15 2008.
Currently You Can Get A Getaway Thru Ii For About 950.00 Which Is Close To The Maintenance Fee At This Property.
Week 41 Would Have Been A Good Deal.
This Is Ok If You Are Wanting To Own A Marriott Week But Otherwise There Are Better Weeks Available At $2000.

We have week 7 and it is an OK trader, haven't gotten an AC with it, but only traded once, but don't think it will get one ever. What Building and Unit are you?

There is a Monarch owners website, I can post that on Saturday, when I get home.

I would keep the Hawaii week, if it were me.

Monarch

i looked up the ebay trade. the purchase price was about $800 so the $2000 included 2008 maintenance fee and closing costs. again not a bad price if you have no other marriott weeks and want to get in their system.
however i do not believe this week will ever get an a/c and will not be a great trader. i just attended an interval meeting at hilton head and the reference by their people was that in the new interval rating that monarch would not be rated as highly as the other marriott hh properties and this may make trades easier into this property in the future for those of us who know and love the monarch.

It was $800 plus closing plus 2008 maintenance. I have been able to trade my cliffs club but really want to be in the Marriott system at a low cost. Hoping to trade for Desert Springs for March Break and Florida Christmas.

That would be in the end of the Azalea Building, second floor facing the reflection pool, according the map that I have, if you want a copy send me an email.

Hi great buy, I too would like to be in the Marriott system at a cheap price.
Please let us know if you are able to trade into the Desert Springs for March , I just love that place.

I'm just trying to learn about the Marriott system. We've been going to HHI for 20 years and the Monarch is one of my favorite properties. Does anyone have an idea what the going rate would be for a 2 bdrm ocean front villa? I don't have any need to go during high season, so shoulder seasons (Sep/Oct or April/May/early June) would work for me.

I've looked on a bunch of websites and I cannot tell which units are ocean front. I assume you buy the view you want...

Just checking around to see what's out there.

I believe that only the Azalea building has units with ocean views. And only units on the 3rd and 4th floors (not counting the 5th floor Crown Suite) have good ocean views.

Monarch has a great location in Sea Pines. For a better chance at true oceanfront units, consider nearby Grande Ocean, a wonderful resort and on the same stretch of beach as Monarch, just outside of Sea Pines.

Purchase price for GO would be higher; MFs are about the same.
