I may have to put my dogs in a kennel since my sister may not be available to stay at my house. I am looking at Smittys Kennel in Middle Island (Suffolk County) Has anyone used them? If not, any suggestions for one. I like the fact that they are open 7 days a week and I can pick up my dogs the day after I get home. Thanks.

I haven't had to put my dog in a Kennel yet. Please let us know if you do and your review of the kennel. I just booked a vacation too and the hardest thing is worrying about what to do with the dog!

Patti:

I used Cozy Noses in Bohemia the one time I had to board them. I had no problems with them and several people I know use them. My only problem is I am getting home on Saturday and they are closed on Sunday. I dont want to leave my dogs there any longer then I must.

Hopefully my sister will be fine and I can rely on her to stay at my house and have my wonderful dog sitter come during the day.

We put our dog in a very posh kennel here in northern NJ...and it costs more than OUR vacation, usually. :(

We also use Cozy Noses. We pay extra for "camp" (one on one time with someone--to run around, play ball, or just relax with their own personal human) and we get a polaroid picture of her from her camp days when we pick her up. They also have a video so they can and keep any eye on the doggies from the reception area. They aren't open Sundays, but they do accommodate if you ask. We tend to get home on Saturdays and as long as we prepay for her week, we can come by around 10-11 on Sunday and pick her up.

What, are you saying that comparing a very posh kennel to a very modest timeshare in the Poconos is not a fair cost-benefit analysis?

We have used Commack animal hospital several times for our dog. They have kennel facilities onsite and have pick up available 7 days a week. The staff is terrific.

Stranded alone OR I'm away at school?

When our son took family to Disney, he opted for putting dog in training school.
Cost was no more and the dog learned stuff and had one on one human contact.

Where is the training school and the name? Doug

I just now read your inquiry and sent an email to my son in Washington.
I asked for a cost comparison and what the dog learned.

The price of a Daycare is in the $24/day price range, at least the ones I checked on.

We paid $28/day. They feed, and take out to play with other dogs 4-5 times. For $5.00 more per day they taught the Here and Down commands.

Figure for an extra $50.00 for the 10-day trip to FL we had him getting some training instead of just "put away"'.

Not cheap but we didn’t feel like dragging him through airports, and finding a place to stay in FL that would accept him. Then what to do when at Disney or parks, etc… He seems to enjoy the time with other dogs too.

Hope this helps.
