I'm sure it works great, but the underlying business model is a pyramid scheme.

I haven't tried bookings through online! I always go to a travel agency..
YTB is a Multi-Level Marketing program which puts up a web page for participants who pay them for the service, first in an upfront fee and then a monthly "maintenance" fee. You then have to figure out ways to drive business to the site.
You make more $ by recruiting others in to the MLM program and build it up. My wife and sis-in-law went to a presentation and was sold very heavily on it. Sis-in-law bought...I talked my wife down largely due to past experiences with MLM's. While not actually a pyramid (they are illegal), it's business model is complicated and somewhat obscure. As such it sure feels like a pyramid. My initial request for info in another thread is on here on tug someplace earlier this month.
To better answer your question, they are using the same database as Travelocity and you'll find they are within a few $$ of searches made on Travelocity. I found I could beat the prices they came up with using Kayak.com on a couple of trips I had recently booked.
