Does anyone out there own a Marriott's Legends Edge?
If so, have you had any luck trading it with II?

I recently purchased a Legends Edge because of its location and the rewards points, not to mention the cheap price and annual fees. I also wanted it to help me book my Waiohai a month earlier on those years. I could then deposit LE if needed.

Question is, does LE have any trading power with II? How can I maximize its trading power? Where could I go with it? I have read stories here on TUG about people booking Ocean Pointe or Beachplace through Florida Club and turning in those weeks to II - some even split the weeks!

Since those FC weeks can not be booked until six months out, is a 6 month out deposit of OC better than a 13 month out deposit of LE?

Being that I already gave the 2007 week up for 100K MR points, I won't have to worry until 2009. But, I could book '09 Spring Break in Feb. 2008, as long as I book Waiohai the same week (or the next week). I have some other Marriott Maui users who are interested in an even exchange.

I have used RCI for years :( , but have never used II. Any help would be appreciated?

Terry

-------- Yes, that's a Monk seal at Waiohai. --------

You may want to ask the moderator to move this to the Marriott forum where it might get more responses.

As a non-Marriott owner, all I can say is that I see tons of 2BR Legends Edge inventory in II right now for most of the year even with my 1BR yellow week, including every single week of spring break (February, March and April of 2008). I realize you're talking about depositing the 2009 week when you can - I expect that there would be lots of those weeks deposited again next year for 2009.

As to what it would trade for - you can find that out yourself online in II - you don't need to deposit it to see what's available. I believe you may need to make up a fake reservation number to do that. Of course what you'll see online is only what's left over after requests have been filled.

Thanks tashamen.

Anybody else own there??

Yesterday, I spoke the Rick Eckert, the director of ALL Marriott salesman for MVCI nationwide. He offices in SoCal but spends a great deal of his time in Hawaii, mainly Waiohai. He told me that Marriott's Legends Edge at Bay Point was the number one selling Marriott resort in the last quarter.

Based on that information, I know there are some LE owners out there.

Speak up.

We were at Surf Club last week and did the tour...

they never once mentioned at all any pricing or purchasing of Surf Club (which is still selling pre-construction) ,

what they did offer, was Legends Edge, with every year ability converting to 100,000 MR points, $750.00 maint. fee, 200,000 MR point bonus for purchase, for $19K....the salesman mentioned that many of his colleagues were purchasing.......

He did say that Legends Edge has had trouble with sales and that's why they came up with this package.

Honestly, we were tempted for the point options, but with the ability to purchase a 200,000 point package in 2 years time directly from marriott.com for $2500.00..we decided it would take a very long time to realize the savings after $19K initial output, $750.00 maint. fee and $104.00 fee for conversion to points every year..

The Florida Club option is something that may or may not work out....I recall when we considered Legends edge in 2001, that was a question that I had...Could I reserve my time into a lock-off and split it...and the answer was no, that I had to reserve 2/2 that couldn't be split, which was why we purchased grande vista instead....this may have changed since then, or I got bad info at the time.

BTW, we've stayed at Legends Egde in 2001 and enjoyed our stay very much. :)

I think it was the number one selling resort because of the deep discounts that they have put in place there. A 2br plat unit that trades every year for 100000 points along with the signup bonuses for only $20,000 developer is a decent price for developer. They were selling silver weeks for $7200 that came with the same "sign today" bonuses just doesn't trade for a lot of points. When we visited in May, the resort just didn't "grab" us. The units were relativly small, and at a small resort. I think the resort was supposed to be bigger, but due to sluggish sales and prime realestate they decided to sell the additional building units (which are identical) as grande residences instead of interval ownership.
We were told at this presentation that you could book a week through the FC at 6 month out and could use the lock off feature. They didn't mention any restrictions on what season you could reserve. They even made it sound like you could book plat season at one of the other FC properties with a silver LE. This leads to another question about the FC that I will start a new thread for.

We are within driving distance of Legends Edge and we really like that area, but the biggest reason for our purchase was indeed the price.

The 100K points every use, the low maintenance fees, and the ability to participate in the Florida Club, were just too good to pass up. I was told that LE was at or near closeout and sales ahd been slow on certain units, so Marriott raised the ante to clear them out .

LE had been giving 75K points every other use prior to this promotion. On Tuesday of my stay they had over 100 units, by Thursday they were down to 50+, and by Monday next they were sold out!

I have not received complete information in the mail yet, but was told by Owner Srevices that you MUST trade platinum to platinum, gold for gold, etc.. That's a bit of a bummer because LE is platinum in the summer, while Ocean Pointe is gold.

Beachplace is platinum in the summer. (Yeah!)

It appears that many owners do not choose to use the FC option on their resorts because of the fact that you have to wait six months out. I would like to learn from those who do.

Does anyone know what my chances of booking a good June or July week at Beachplace would be if I waited until January to reserve?

Thanks,
Terry

I thought that you could reserve down. So if you own Platinum, you can reserve gold at another FC property.

I was going to bring this up as a new thread, but I will mention it here. If the gold for gold, silver for silver is true, they are falsely advertising the Florida club. Grande Vista only has two seasons, Gold and Platinum, so if you bought Silver, MGV is out. There are only three resorts with silver seasons, so you couldn't reserve at any of the five FC resorts, you would only be able to reserve in to two. Your own resort would be the third. So they shouldn't be advertising this the way that they are. You can't necessarily reserve in to any of the five resorts if you are limited to the season. I would think that if you are reserving at the six-month mark, there shouldn't be a seasonal restriction as you are already limited in what you can reserve due to the six-month reservation rule.

Someone has to be right and one has to be wrong. The sales staff at LE told us you could reserve a platinum week at one of the other resorts with your silver LE. Owner Services told us, season for season. It would be interesting to hear what the printed material says.

I was told by my salesman and by owner services that it had to be the same season. There was no mention of booking "down" or off resorts that do not offer silver season. We purchased Platinum because of the points vs. maintenance fees. We also wanted to get in on the "inside" because we bought our Waiohai resale.

THOUGHT:
From another thread, it appears that booking a March week at Ocean Pointe six months out using Florida Club is very doable. I could then turn that week in to II - even split it if wanted.

QUESTION:
Where can I go with an OP platinum week deposited six months out to II? Is summer at Manor Club or Newport Coast obtainable? What about Marbella or better, Hawaii?

Anyone's thoughts???

Any Ocean Pointe or BeachPlace owners able to chime in?
