Some family will be travelling with me to the Surf Club in Aruba this weeekend. Of the seven of us, only one has not received her passport after 16 weeks!!! Of course that means she has no birth certificate either.
So my question is...To do a walk-in and purchase a certified copy of her birth certificate in downtown Manhattan, do you think she will receive it the same day? The automated system at the Hall of Records or whatever says you can just "walk-in" and to bring gov't issued id in order to apply for the birth certificate. It just doesn't mention if it's same day service. Have you had any first hand experience?

Ok.this was many years ago so I don't know if it has changed ( about 8 yrs ago). I needed a birth certificate with a raised seal and I just went into the Hall of Records in Manhattan and walked out with a birth certificate. Same Day. It did take some time--sort of like DMV--lots of waiting. But I did get it!

That's not what you will need to get to Aruba. You will need proof that you applied for a passport. A birth certificate will not be enough to travel to Aruba in lieu of a passport.

You will still need the birth certificate and government issued picture ID (driver's license) to prove identity in addition to the passport agency receipt of application submission.

I know Larry, she needs all three. Birth Cert, receipt from passport application, and her drivers lisence. That's why we're scrambling, b/c she doesn't have brth cert yet. However she will go downtown first thing tomorrow morning. I really appreciate your replies. Can you imagine, I planned this trip 9 mnths ago so this crisis is unthinkable. Will post back from Surf Club to tell all how it went. Thank You again, really!

Was she born in NYC? I applied for my birth certificate a number of years ago, but at that time all NYS birth certificates were kept in Albany, just NYC births were in NYC.

Yes she was born in Manhattan. So, she's covered.

I have received a birth certificate in Manhattan the same day, but that was a number of years ago. Bring documentation on why she needs it and be prepared to jump through hoops.
