I am in the market for a battery for my Toshiba 1805 laptop. I am tired of it running out before the end of movies when I am traveling:) . Can one of you TUG computer gurus give me a suggestion on the type of computer battery that lasts the longest?? I understand that some types of batteries last longer than others. Also the best site to buy it online. Thanks sooooooooo much for the help!!!

We've bought batteries for all sorts of electronics from batteries.com and have been very happy. I don't have a specific brand or "type" to suggest, however.

eBay is a great place to buy laptop batteries.

Start at the Toshiba site to see what accessories they sell. Toshiba will probably show the specs for different battery options - you particularly want to know the power rating.

At eBay you only want to deal with power sellers who have very strong (>99% positive) feedback ratings. Read the descriptions carefully, attending to whether the unit is new or used and whether it is genuine Toshiba or a generic.

Search the completed auctions listing for your model to see what the current selling prices are.

I recently bought a second battery for my Dell. With shipping costs and everything, eBay was about 40% of the Dell price for the same unit, and about 60% of the price at batteries.com (plus batteries.com didn't put up specs a description for the particular battery so even then I wasn't sure which battery they were offering).

Just over a year ago, I bought a second and a third battery for my Dell. That generally allows enough power to watch two movies of my choosing on my laptop on a transcon flight.

That's why I bought the second battery.

Thanks for the advice!!! Is there a "specific" type of laptop battery that lasts longer than others??? Again thanks for all the responses!!!

I would exercise some caution here. One - with all of the recalls of batteries in the past year due to possible fires, you really don't know what you may be getting or who manufactured the battery if you buy aftermarket / no-name batteries.

Two - several years ago, on my last laptop I bought an aftermarket battery and found that the laptop seemed to run much hotter with that battery than with the original. Always made me a bit nervous.

I bought a new Sony laptop this year and bought a second battery direct from Sony on-line (they offer a discount for your first purchase after buying a new computer). I probably could have gotten something cheaper, but I feel more comfortable with their branded product. And if there is a recall, I know it will be covered.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't think Newer Tech makes batteries for PC, but it does seem to get warm when used.

The one (Newer) for this MAC G4 17 inch lasts for about 4 + hours. It is much stronger than the one supplied by Apple. Machine is set for best energy savings preformance. Maybe they make a brand for the PC?

I, too, feel more comfortable with the branded product. But I have yet to figure out why I should pay twice as much to buy that branded product directly from the manufacturer.
