OK friends, help me clarify something please. If you have your fixed week reserved, and want to trade it for another week within your season at your home resort you have to try 12 months out to the day. If you want to be put on the "home priority wait list", I was told by owner services that you MUST give up your fixed week reservation in order to be put on the wait list, whether it be the SVN waitlist or the home priority wait list.

I did find out last year that you CAN be put on BOTH of the wait lists (home priority and SVN) at the same time, which memembers services did not recognize. I had to call Greg Grey to straighten that out. As you CAN be put on both.

If in the event, you do have to give up your fixed week prior to being put on the home priority wait list 12 months out, what happens if that week does not become available? Are you just out of luck, with no week at all?? or are you stuck trying to get anything you can??

My understanding is that only Elite Owners can have a confirmed reservation and wait-list at the same time. If your wait-list reservation doesn't come through, I believe you are stuck trying to get anything you can.

in the past i have made my 12 month reservation at my home resort and then at the 8 month window i see what is available and than i switch the reservation. this way i still have my trip planned.

I find it disturbing that you have to give up your fixed week in order to request another week in your season 12 months out. What happens if you don't get anything suitable? your stuck with hurricane season, and not having the option to rent out. nice. thank you for your input!

At WSJ - this is a problem because all VG units (Hillside) are fixed.

The 1Bd or studio units have more inventory and likely not as difficult as the 2Bd and 3Bd units due to less inventory and therefore more difficult to expect a within season exchange.

With the float units at the BV section this should become easier (as a SVN exchange) - it would be nice if they gave WSJ owner priority for WSJ exchanges, but likely going o need to compete with other SVN exchangers.

We just got back and in B34 - I would say there were empty 1Bd and studio units - and some definately were being rented out because we saw a few folks that were only there for a few days.

It was a wonderful week... 51 weeks to go!

Yes, that would be nice if we had priority to exchange with the newer villas, that should be a no brainer through Starwood. I can only hope that another in-season week becomes available, you can only be placed on one wait list at a time, therefore making it even more difficult. I guess what may help is being the very first person to call on exactly 12 months out to the day to be put on the wait list. I just have a pit in my stomach, knowing I deposited my platinum week, and there is NO guarantee I will get anything within my season, needless to say it's even harder to go out of your season at 8 months out. I wonder what the percentages of people that get put on wait lists actually get what they requested. Scary business when you paid so much money. I actually looked into buying down a season with my platinum week to a gold summer week but I would have to pay out a lot more money. I thought about trying to rent it out, but it seems that SO many people have their units listed through Redweek and the only ones that actually get rented out are the ones that are the least expensive, therefore basically covering the maintenace fees, which is OK I guess, but that will not cover a week in a 2 bedroom with equal value at a delux resort.
