I'll be flying out next week on Southwest @ MCO to Denver - RT. There are so many restrictions that I decided to check my luggage 2 pieces. Can I pack hair products; any size, a small bottle of rum, and any other items restricted to size? What about snacks for the plane trip? Thanks for your imput!!

You can put just about anything in your checked bags, but reading your specific items, did you mean to say carryon? If you did mean your carryon then you can take items that are in a 3 oz container or smaller. They all must fit in a single quart size baggie. As far as I know, snacks such as chips, cookies, etc. are okay and not subject to restriction.

Edited to add: I'm not sure about the rum.

You can pack hair products and liquids (bottle of rum) in your checked bag. I have taken snacks on the plane as long as no liquids except h2o bought after going thru security. Any liquids or gels must be 3 oz or less packed in a 1 qt plastic bag to be shown at security.

Check your airline specifics on their online site. Some charge extra for checking a 2nd bag. Some are limited to size of carry on. Best to check ahead of time to save time at airport.

Have a good trip.

In checked luggage, almost anything - except for flammable, explosive and dangerous items - is okay. See the complete list of what is okay and what isn't at this link.

You can take food with you in your carry-on as long as it isn't a liquid, gel or aerosol. To take those three restricted items, they must fit into 3 oz. containers and all fit in a single one-quart zip-top plastic bag in order to get through Security. Liquids (e.g., bottles of water) purchased inside of Security can be taken aboard. Also, baby formula, food and similar items are okay.

Thanks

Plan to pack it ALL, in the checked luggage! Plan to minimize the amount of clothes we take. I always back way to much for my son & myself. We will be taking food on the plane, over a 4 hour trip. My son is 18, and you all know they have a bottom-less pit!:D

A slight chance in circumstances... When I returned from Mexico this past January, they wouldn't allow ANY beverages to be carried on, regardless of whether purchased inside the security area or not. But it wasn't clear to me whether this was a TSA rule applicable to flights of foreign origin, or whether it was the airline's (Alaska) own rule in this situation, or whether it was the airport's (Los Cabos) rule, or ???

Most passengers were surprised and the airline check-in people ended up with a table full of bottles at the gate.

We left Cozumel on Monday and they hand searched our carry on at the gate wouldn't allow water bottles, etc.

When we returned from PV on Alaska last month, there was an added security check at the gate. No liquids were allowed through that checkpoint. Travelers who purchased duty-free liquors were given their goods by store personnel after they cleared that gate check.

Upon clearing customs in the US, travelers who were continuing on had to pack the bottles inside their checked baggage. Otherwise the liquids would be confiscated when they went through security again after leaving customs.
