Armed Forces Vacation Club-certificate sale

When I go to the site to check resorts, there doesn't seem to be any set price for 7 night stays so how does one know where the "sale" certificates can be used? I presume that they are only valid at select resorts.

Okay I signed up for an account. If you haven't you should. Once you login you'll see a banner at the top for the sale.
Click "Buy Now".
Scroll down until you see
"Military Resort Vacation Certificates"
Under that heading you'll see
PURCHASE
EXPLORE RESORTS
REDEEM CERTIFICATES
Select "Explore Resorts "
You'll go to a new page where you are able to select resorts and dates.
And that's how you see what's available. 😁

This is a legit site, it's just a way that RCI offloads excess inventory and you do see some desirable locations especially during shoulder season. I always check the "No additional charge" box and make sure the additional resort fees are 0 or minimal. I bought four of these last year at $250 each and have been happy with my bookings.

Are these good for one year from the date of purchase? I see something similar on Heroes Vacation Club site.

I am "exploring resorts" and found these dates and prices. Would I have to pay those prices if using a certificate? I noticed this resort has no resort fees. TIA.

What you want to see is "No Charge" under price. They are good for one year after purchase.

Just hoping to clarify.......as claraj asked.....are the certificates good for these bookings, or will one have to pay the fee listed, in this case $378? Sorry if I'm not clear, just that there
are so many sites that are misleading and before I commit, I want to be sure. I have traded my Wyndham points with RCI and although I did get a good deal, there was always some
"additional" fees that made it sound less of a great deal.
Thanks for responding with your experience.

Not Ed but, I'm pretty sure if a dollar amount is listed thats what you'll pay in addition to the purchase of your certificate.
.

From what I have seen over the years, there are the basic discount weeks for a check in about 90 days or less. There are other weeks further out or larger units or more desirable locations that are more expensive. I have never used the certificates, i just booked what I needed, but it would seem that the certificate would cover most basic weeks at at under 90 days that I can see and get for between $349-$499.

I don't know how it would work for the more expensive weeks, but I would guess that there is a value of the certificate around that range that would be discounted from the rental price. Has anyone used these certificates for the more expensive weeks?

I think the prices are on top of the certificate fee because I was searching for more desirable locations (Costa Rica) or more desirable weeks (high season). Also, some resorts appear to have a upgrade fee for units bigger than a studio.

My assessment is that the certificates are likely good for studios during low/shoulder season.

I use the filter for "No Additional Charge". The selection will only have resorts that your RVC certificate will cover without additional charges. There may be a resort fee that the resort charges upon check in but this is a fee that is charged to all checking in not just through AFVC. I usually don't go to resorts charging a fee. But when you click on a resort it will tell if there is a resort fee.

I understand this is an RCI platform to unload slow moving inventory. If you already have an RCI account, these call all be seen in either Extra Vacations or Last Call.
I checked the Vegas post above. Here it is on exchange and last call:

Exchange

Extra Vacations - note: when you go through to check-out the total after discount is $434 CDN (approx $317 USD).

Last Call: Same inventory for $449 CDN ($328 USD)

So technically a tiny discount not including tax for 2 of these from AFVC.
Negative. Not a discount at all. Quite the opposite

$275 USD + $378 upgrade = AFVC $653 USD vs RCI Extra Vacation $317 USD

I've compared pricing between AFVC and II Getaways and the Getaways always win for me.

how much are the II getaways you usually get and where? I’m sure the inventory on II getaways is higher quality as well. That said AFVC has a lot of places for under $500 weekly and even under $400 so the prices are pretty good.

It's the off season in Orlando. December and January. Once you add everything up for AFVC, I came up with a higher price than II Getaways.

Interesting, Orlando is one of the cheapest places to book on RCI and AFVC. I have a booking for 2 bedroom $429, gorgeous resort and no extra fees. I also saw a 3 bedroom for $649 at WM for all fees. I'm working on getting an II account going so I should be able to compare soon

Here's a random weekend for Marriott Grande Vista studio to 2BR in September. These are platinum member prices. Regular price is $50 more.
