I posted a review of our recent stay at Sabal Palms in Orlando, overall we had a really nice time and they did a nice job with the refurbishment in the last few years. We like that it’s a quieter resort but we can easily walk to the World Center Marriott, no shuttle need.

One weird thing was the music at the pool. We were at the pool a few days and all they’re playing is “club” music. A bit monotonous after 2 days….We were talking to some other guests who also had the same comment. The front desk said that engineering controls the music but for a long time they’ve been asking them to change it up and nothing ever seems to change. So weird, seems like it’s the first time we haven’t really enjoyed the music at a Marriott vacation club.

Hoping it’s not a trend!

This is rather disappointing. I experienced the same problem during my last stay over a year ago. I complained to the front desk and was given the same excuse. I decided to walk over to Royal Palms to speak with the GM and expressed my concerns about the inappropriate music, especially since Sabal Palms is supposed to be a 'quiet' resort. I noticed that the music at RP pools was more mainstream and relaxing. He indicated they would make the change and the music was much better later in the week. It appears it didn't last long. Perhaps this is being controlled at the corporate level because the garbage music is likely less costly due to not having to pay license fees.

I don't like music being played at pools. Invariably it's not going to be to my taste and therefore ruins what should be a relaxing time. What's worse is people playing their own music out loud from a bluetooth speaker. Why do they think everyone else wants to listen to their music. I've experienced it with a family who were at one of the villa pools at Son Antem and most recently at the JW Khao Lak resort.

Same reason people use their cell phones on speakerphone mode. IDK why, it's very annoying.

They started doing this the last couple of years at NCV on the weekends…loud club music with a strong base thumping. Not at all what we bought into when we purchased long ago…not really family friendly in my opinion. Thankfully during the week they have a musician that performs in the afternoons chill and laid back music that’s nice to listen to. I don’t like the change on the weekends at all. I wish they’d keep it family friendly and relaxing like a high end resort, not a late night club in Vegas. It cheapens the experience in my opinion. Sorry they changed it at Sabal Palms, too. We had a good time there about 8 years ago.

I totally agree.
If i want to listen to music I will do so using my headphones.
If I have to take or make a call (very rare at the pool) I will leave the area to do so.
I really don’t want to listen to other people’s music, video or voice calls.
Occasional live music a resort may have is very welcome though.

That is the only Marriott in Orlando we have never stayed. Our friends have been there twice and are not owners at all of the Marriott system, but they really enjoy the resort.

Remember Saturday Night Live with the men who went to bars and they would bob their heads synchronized to the song, "Baby Don't Hurt Me." One of the most hilarious episodes. Whomever they had for a guest that week (males) would join in that skit.

What you describe is a symptom of a disease, a terminal illness.

Take one close look at the Executive Leadership Team of Marriott Vacations Worldwide, with the exception of the token lawyer, accountant, HR, and technology people, they are an abysmal accumulation of timeshare sharks, many with roots at Diamond Resorts, one of the once, most notorious, evil, deceptive, and fraudulent timeshare companies in the world. Forget not, Diamond Resort’s history of preying on senior citizens, and naive consumers. For anyone not familiar with Diamond Resorts, or for anyone who may have forgotten Diamond’s history and legacy, a few hours on Google, will give you all the dirt you need to appreciate the impending demise of Marriott Vacations Worldwide, and MVW’s inability to change a zebra’s stripes. The Diamond People will not change.

Instead of having an Executive Leadership Team, comprised of experts in hospitality (not, what Diamond Resorts alleged was hospitality), lodging, resort operations, and food and beverage, with Executive Leaders from Marriott’s lodging, resort operations, hospitality, and food and beverage division, MVW’s Executive Leadership Team is nearly 100% weighed with non-Marriott leaders, and non-experts in resort operations, hospitality and/or HOA management. The token, quasi-Marriott guy, is Scott Weisz, son of MVCI/MVW’s former, longtime President and CEO, Stephen Weisz.

If you look carefully at MVW’s Balance Sheet, you will see that MVW derives significant income from resort community operations, administration, and leadership; unfortunately, the Executive Leadership Team is not comparably comprised of leaders from those disciplines. What does that make? In my opinion, it makes a recipe for disaster, compounded by the metastases of MVW’s Executive Leadership Team with executives with long, established ties, to Diamond Resorts.

Mark my words, for those who think otherwise, buckle up.

The Marriott in Marriott Vacation Club is gone. I’m shocked that Marriott International is so willing to compromise their name, in exchange for the revenue stream that they derive from Marriott Vacations Worldwide. I don’t think it’s likely, but, in my opinion, the time has come for Marriott International to demand the return of Marriott, in/to Marriott Vacations Worldwide. It’s clear that the former Marriott International executive, once, consummate Marriott lodging professional, William Shaw, Chairman of the MVW Board, has made a variety of strategic errors, to denigrate Marriott Vacations Worldwide, and to compromise the once, highly regarded Marriott brand. I am shocked by, and disappointed in, William Shaw.
