I had been using Redweek for decades and now that they have been purchased the price to rent one unit has skyrocketed I refuse to use them. Very Frustrating that it will now cost almost $200 per rental and you don't get paid till 2 days after the renter check in...

One of the thoughts that I had was the ability to put together lists of renters over the years that we could simply make our rental offering too.
Maybe we could talk to Tug about this as I would certainly pay to specifically list with renters that previously rented from my specific timeshare location.

Anybody have any thoughts on this idea?

ive pondered a rating system or similar for TUG members yes...could include the number of years of membership, how many listings posted/completed etc...
the problem with this is that in order for a renter or buyer to have a rating, they would need to be members.

I agree with you. If any member rented a unit I would suggest that the person who rented could opt in to receive offerings from that specific location. I have been renting units in Aruba for over 20 years and I kept a list of the renters and always send out an email to that list when I decide to rent a unit. If Tug had this list of people that had previously rented it would be a great option. For example if I I place an ad for my 2 units at The Divi Aruba Pheonix on your site for renting, anyone that opted in for that location would be notified of the listing. This way previous renters get a heads up and the owner has that much more of a chance to renting... Thoughts?

one thing id pondered was utilizing the want to rent section for something like this. for instance if someone posts a want to rent for a marriott in orlando it would send out an email notify anyone who had previously posted a Marriott rental in the past to see if they could make a reservation for them.

with everything going to points now, far more owners have the ability to make reservations within their systems, we just need a better way to match those people with renters looking for timeshares!

lets look at this this way with this want to rent listing as an example:

what would be the IDEAL way to communicate to all TUG members that have the ability to make this reservation for this member?

would be:

any vistana owners
westin flex owners
POSSIBLY marriott abound owners
fixed/floating week owners at this specific resort

First would we just notify ALL tug members who fall into these categories? Id think a good % would have no interest in renting and as such would not welcome that email.

We could just limit the notifications to those members who fit these categories, and have posted rentals in the past (assuming if you rented once, youd be interested in doing it again)?

then tailoring this custom notification solution to each system to ensure the notifications went to the right people. its a pretty extensive undertaking to even write down on paper.

I can think right off the bat we could immediately implement a notification to owners who have a rental posted AT THAT RESORT.

now admittedly those owners might not have a reservation for the weeks this member is asking for, but they might be able to get it if they knew there was a TUG member who needed that reservation.

hmmm - I understand your thoughts... The time has come for me to ponder this concept... I will be back to you...

I think to start we can simply just create a push notification to any TUG member who has an active rental listing at the specific resort...that should be a no brainer.

anyone whos actively trying to rent probably wont mind seeing a "want to rent" request by another TUG member at that same resort, maybe they can fill it, maybe the can change their reservation to get it rented, or maybe not. I still think its a worthwhile notification to send.

expanding beyond that will have to measure the benefit vs annoyance factor of sending emails to people who arent interested in renting at all.

Maybe somewhere on the profile page an owner can have options to be contacted for such rentals that can be turned on or off.

we would certainly provide an option to disable emails like that on the dashboard yes.

or perhaps an opt in for "any want to buy/rent listings notifications" or similar...im sure we can tweak it. id just assume err on the side of caution to start vs sending out mass blanket emails that many people will mark as spam!

My thought will be if there is an option to receive an email if a post for a rental wanted is made. The TUG members can turn that on or off. If it is possible, there is more than one off/on button for the different systems just like we have categorized in the discussion forum. Maybe combine Marriott and vistana (or something like that).
And then you can do some marketing blitz on the different social media sites that TUG have a presence.
